Responsibilities & QualificationsPosition OverviewThe Recycling Center team, located in Guthrie, KY is seeking an experienced EHS Specialist. The incumbent is responsible for administering and coordinating the plant environmental, safety, health, and security processes at the Guthrie Plant. This involves close cooperation with the operations teams to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all employees. The EHS Specialist is also the primary support role for the plant in performing the considerable detailed work required to manage the ISO14001 Environmental Management System (EMS).

Fire protection, rescue services, training, and maintaining healthy working relationships with off-site emergency response organizations are also included.

Responsibilities:

Develop and direct the environmental health, safety, and security processes to ensure the safety, morale, health, and security of employees, equipment, and property.

Assist in the administration of the Worker's Compensation program.

Responsible for leading plant safety and health audits, President Safety Award Audits, Internal and External Environmental Audits, and Industrial Hygiene Assessments in compliance with Federal and State Regulatory Agencies.

Constant review of periodicals and publications to stay abreast of new regulations, proposed regulations, corporate initiatives and directives, and new practices/philosophies on safety and health.

Create, implement, and continually update EHS-related training. Provide regular training to Team Members in partnership with plant staff.

Responsible for supporting and auditing the activities of the contracted Security service to effectively secure the property.

Development, implementation, and administration of the Behavioral Based Safety program.

Remain current on EMS regulatory requirements and maintain the plant's EMS.

Maintain environmental records, prepare and submit environmental reports to corporate, state, and federal agencies, and work with consultants on environmental issues.

Qualifications:

BS in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).

2 – 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment responsible for EHS.

Proficient PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to be on-call or work off-hours as needed.

Demonstrates ability to work independently with attention to detail and organizational skills.

Superior analytical/problem-solving, written and verbal communication.

Experience working with local regulatory agencies is preferred.

Familiar with various emission control devices to ensure compliance.

Location ProfileNovelis in Guthrie, Kentucky is approximately 15 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville, Tennessee and 30 minutes from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. As Novelis’ newest facility, Guthrie houses a heat treatment and pretreatment line as well as a recycle center that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 300 residents. From stagecoaches to railroads, Guthrie has played an important part in transportation from the 1820’s through today because of its central location to major cities.
