Position Overview:
Novelis is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Leader for our automotive finishing and recycling plants in Guthrie, KY. This position is responsible for coordinating EHS activities/projects to support risk reduction and continuous improvement of the EHS Management System. The EHS Leader will ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations, institutional quality and safety standards, company policy/procedures and strive to reduce the company’s environmental footprint and improve safety performance. Incumbent is also responsible for driving safety culture throughout the plant and influencing a safety-focused mindset.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Establish and enforce policies and practices required to provide safe equipment, a safe working environment and safe work practices
Strategically and tactically own EHS policy, implement the EHS management system and ensure continual improvement of EHS performance in day-to-day operations
Influences Plant and partners with Production, Operations, Maintenance, and site management to drive the EHS performance and results
Monitors changes to all EHS regulations pertaining to their area and reviews recommendations for incorporation into EHS management systems and standards in a timely manner
Accountable for managing site EHS documentation to include program design, EHS data collection and posting, training documentation, and EHS KPI reports
Manage site occupational health strategy, including managing site nurse
Accountable for ensuring site adherence to ISO14001 and other similar institutional guidelines
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Requires minimum 5 years EHS experience within heavy manufacturing
Experience running Safety Committees and Emergency Response Teams strongly preferred
Requires a thorough, in depth knowledge of all local, state and federal laws and regulations related to areas of responsibility
A high level of effectiveness in human relations skills and ability to clearly communicate is necessary
Must be a self-starter, able to work independently as well as with all levels of the workforce
Excellent communication (oral and written) skills with the ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing process and business policy and practices
Desire to take initiative and develop a proactive relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship
Ability to organize and prioritize workload
Must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, particularly Microsoft Office applications
ISO14001 experience preferred
