Assistant/Associate/Professor and/or Director of Burn Trauma Surgery , Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine [R0143264].

Role of the Position

The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking an Acute Care Surgeon to join our team to work at University Medical Center (UMC) Level 1 trauma center and ABA verified burn center. UMC Lions Burn Care Center was founded in 1968 and has been verified since 2016 in the treatment of children and adults.

We have a 16 bed burn unit with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, physical & occupational therapists, nutritionists, pharmacists, family therapists, child life specialists, social workers, and case managers, all with burn expertise. We treat burns of all mechanisms, along with complex wounds and certain dermatologic conditions. We have a very wide catchment area that includes Nevada, northern Arizona, eastern California, and western Utah. We average over 300 burn admissions a year (one-third of which are pediatric) and over 1000 patients in the outpatient clinic. We are also a teaching center for many residencies including UNLV General Surgery, UNLV Plastic Surgery, UNLV Emergency Medicine along with fellowships for UNLV Surgical Critical Care and UNLV Acute Care Surgery.

While the focus of this job is burn care, there are opportunities to include trauma and emergency general surgery patients in your practice. This job provides an opportunity not just to be involved in clinical burn care but also to be on the forefront of research, outreach, teaching, and process improvement.

The SOM Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (SOM) promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the SOM. Tenure consideration may be given upon hire on a case by case basis depending on verified previous credentials, the FAPT recommendation, and SOM Dean's recommendation.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of an accredited ACGME or AOA residency training program in general surgery or plastic surgery.

Board certified by the American Board of Surgery (as certified by the American Board of Medical Specialists), the American Board of Plastic Surgery, or the equivalent by the American Osteopathic Association. Burn experience with burn fellowship training preferred.

Board Certification in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists and Boards of Certification.

Burn fellowship preferred.

3 years experience as an Academic attending surgeon is preferred.

Current ABLS provider or Instructor Certification.

Knowledge of Burn Team physician roles, section policies, protocols, and guidelines.

Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
