Hydrogeologist (Hydrogeologist 3)

position. This position is located in our Southwest Regional Office located on the first floor in our

Headquarters Office

in

Lacey, WA.

Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.In this role, you will be the regional technical expert for permitting, closure, and corrective action for complex contaminated groundwater site characterizations and emerging contaminants under the state’s Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) and the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). This position provides hydrogeological expertise and supports senior project managers or independently manages cleanup at facilities within the region to ensure they achieve cleanup goals.Agency Mission:

This position will have flexibility of a hybrid schedule, empowering work from home and office, providing less time in traffic and shrinking your carbon footprint. This position will be eligible for up to a 90% tele-work schedule.Application Timeline:

September 25, 2024.What makes this role unique?This position provides hydrogeological expertise and manages cleanup at facilities across the southwest region to ensure they achieve cleanup goals. You will support senior project managers on complex corrective action sites or independently plan and oversee, either independently or as part of a team, hydrogeologic projects or investigations of soil, groundwater, vadose zone, and surface water at contaminated sites.What you will do:As a licensed geologist (or licensed hydrogeologist or licensed engineering geologist), you will provide geological and hydrogeological support and peer review to project managers in HWTR/SWRO in a team environment.Develop and implement studies to assess potential impacts and the most effective methods to effectively clean up contaminated sites under the framework of RCRA corrective action.Review and prepare geological or hydrogeological letters, memos, technical reports to support projects led by the unit’s project managers.Conduct MTCA-required Periodic Reviews to evaluate post-cleanup site conditions and monitoring data to assure cleanup remedies or institutional controls are functioning as designed and that human health and the environment are being protected.Negotiate and drafts (independently or as part of a team) agreed orders, consent decrees, and administrative orders for remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and other cleanup actions.Apply hydrogeology expertise and project management skills to cleanup activities for corrective action and closure at dangerous waste management facilities as an independent site manager.Required Qualifications:A total of Seven years (7) of professional experience and or education:ANDPossession of a valid Washington State Geologist and/or Hydrogeologist Specialty license.Experience

as a hydrogeologist, hydrologist, geologist or closely allied profession.Education:

major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology or closely allied field.The above education and experience may be concurrent with the time it takes to get licensure.OROne year as a Hydrogeologist 2 at the Department of Ecology.Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.Must possess a Washington State Geology License.Desired Qualifications:Experience navigating complex projects with technical, political, or administrative challenges.Experienced facilitator of politically sensitive or technically complex hydrogeologic projects.Ecology seeks diverse applicants:
