The Protein Technologies Center (PTC) in the Department of Structural Biology is seeking a highly motivated Scientist with experience in protein and membrane protein biochemistry to join a newly funded GPCR collaborative project to investigate the molecular determinants and fidelity of GPCR signaling in health and disease. As part of the collaborative grant, the candidate will work closely with several partnering labs (Scott Blanchard, Madan Babu, Robert Lefkowitz, Alice Ting, Jonathan Javitch, and Georgios Skiniotis).

Successful candidates should have demonstrated competencies in the following areas:

Cloning, expression, purification, and biochemically characterizing membrane proteins from mammalian and/or insect cell systems.

Prior experience with membrane protein or GPCR structural studies or functional assays.

A significant contribution towards peer-reviewed research articles in the related scientific subject(s).

Excellent record-keeping, communication, and presentation skills and ability to prepare high-quality manuscripts of findings for publication.

Responsibilities:

Design constructs, clone, express, and purify GPCRs, G-proteins, arrestins, and other signaling proteins for structural, functional, and biophysical experiments to investigate structure-dynamics-function relationships.

Structure determination using either CryoEM or x-ray methods.

Work independently, leading a project from hypothesis to high-quality oral presentations and publications.

Collaborate with an interdisciplinary group of researchers as part of a multi-institutional collaborative, including presentations to a broad audience.

Train and mentor graduate students, post-docs, and visiting scientists.
