JOB SUMMARY
The Fire Chief is responsible for the management of all City of Conroe Fire Department programs, activities and resources necessary to provide area-wide fire prevention, fire suppression, fire and arson investigation, hazard mitigation, emergency management and emergency medical services. Responsible for the management of employees in a Civil Service environment, in four distinct disciplines, each regulated by a separate state governmental agency.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in fire science or related field and ten years of experience including managing a comprehensive emergency management plan/system with five of the years in an administration capacity, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
Eligible for at least an intermediate level Structural Firefighter certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Meets requirements of Section 143.013 of the Local Civil Service Code. Possession of valid class "B" or higher Texas driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of fire prevention principles and practices, fire suppression and rescue operations, emergency medical service operations, and law enforcement methods and practices.
Knowledge of emergency management issues, practices, risk analysis and methods of hazard mitigation research and planning.
Knowledge of modern human and fiscal resource management and conflict management techniques.
Knowledge of personnel/civil service law.
Ability to communicate and interact appropriately with people of different ethnic, economic and social backgrounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, fingering, grasping, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, talking and visual acuity.
