ASSISTANT ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking candidates to fill an Assistant Environmental Engineer position within the Bureau of Remediation & Waste Management at its Eastern Maine Regional Office in Bangor.BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:

This entry level environmental engineering position is in the Division of Technical Services of the Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management (BRWM). The position provides an opportunity to address complex and meaningful environmental problems by providing engineering expertise and technical support during the investigation and remediation of sites. The primary focus of the position is to provide engineering and technical expertise in managing, designing, and monitoring soil, groundwater, and indoor air remediation projects resulting from various types of petroleum spills. Responsibilities include development of conceptual site models, evaluating risks to receptors, establishing cleanup goals, conducting or overseeing contractors’ remedial work, evaluating progress of remediation, and eventual closure of home heating oil spill sites. This position will also assist in the Underground Storage Tank site assessment review process and assist in the BRWM education and outreach initiative to mitigate home heating oil tanks and ancillary equipment from leaking. Additional engineering project management and technical assistance is provided for RCRA, VRAP, CERCLA, and solid waste sites including open and closed landfills.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Civil, Sanitary, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or related Engineering field. Related experience may be substituted for education.LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

For non-engineering college graduates or non-degreed candidates: Certification of Engineer-in-Training as issued by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.HOW TO APPLY:
