Assistant Professor of Mathematics or Statistics – Two Positions

The University of Maine seeks to fill two tenure-track assistant professor positions in mathematics or statistics. These are nine-month, academic-year positions anticipated to begin September 1, 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Undergraduate and graduate teaching (normally totaling two classes per semester)
Advising and recruiting students
Directing undergraduate projects and graduate theses
Maintaining a productive program of research and other scholarly activity, including the pursuit of external funding for research
Participating in curriculum development and assessment
Engaging in university and professional service
Qualifications:
Required:
A Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics or an equivalent degree is required by date of hire
Demonstrated effective teaching
Evidence of strong potential for research and for obtaining external research funding
Effective written and oral communication skills
Preferred:
Ability to teach statistics at upper level and graduate level
Research interests and expertise that enhance present activities in our department and university
Record of effective involvement in advising, mentoring, curriculum development, and/or assessment
Evidence of active contribution to diversity and inclusivity in a higher education setting.
Preference may be given to candidates whose research enhances present activity in the department and university, particularly in applied mathematics, probability, or statistics.
Preference may also be given to candidates who can support our teaching activities in statistics, especially at upper level.
