About the DepartmentThe Western Washington University-Asia University America Program (WWU-AUAP) is a specially-designed English language and cultural orientation program which has been developed cooperatively with Asia University (Tokyo, Japan), Western Washington University, Central Washington University, and Eastern Washington University. During this five-month study abroad program, the WWU-AUAP offers twenty hours of instruction per week at different instructional levels.

About the PositionAsia University America Program (AUAP) maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary teaching positions. In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year and summer sessions, applications are accepted continuously for temporary non-tenure track teaching positions on a part-time basis with occasional opportunities for temporary, full-time appointments.

The AUAP Instructor provides instruction in components of a specialized ESL curriculum. The WWU-AUAP offers twenty hours of instruction per week at different instructional levels. The specific ESL and content courses include: Integrated English Skills, Functions of English, American Studies, International Communications (with emphasis on content related to important global issues), and Career/Business Exploration.

Conditions of Contract: Fifteen instructional hours per week constitutes fulltime employment. AUAP has two terms, approximately five months each. This is a five-month, renewable contract.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in TESL, Applied Linguistics or a Related Field with TESOL Certification

Experience teaching a range of postsecondary ESL skill and content areas at all proficiency levels

Effective communication skills, including cross-cultural communication

Ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues, including multicultural experience and the ability to create and promote an inclusive community

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing and implementing content-based curriculum

Demonstrated professional activity (conference presentations, publications, service to profession)

Knowledge of another language

Successful teaching experience abroad
