General Position Summary:
Under immediate supervision, performs complex non-professional manual duties relative to the care and re-shelving of unique collections in proper order using the NLM classification system. Assists in other support tasks as assigned.
Job Type:
Temporary Full-Time (6 months)
This position is performed 100% onsite .
Hourly Rate: $24.07/ $50,065.00 plus $4.53
Essential Job Functions:
The purpose of this position is to maintain the library’s unique collection in a neat and orderly manner by reshelving library materials correctly
Shift materials in shelving stacks to make space for new additions, following complex shifting plans.
Ensure materials on the shelves are kept in the correct order and that the appearance, neatness, and order of the volumes on the shelves are not altered or degraded during the shifting process.
Arrange library materials on book trucks and reshelve them in proper order.
Shelf-read and straighten materials on the shelves and reshelve materials following the NLM classification system.
Move, shift, and interfile library materials following the NLM classification system.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to follow detailed directions.
Ability to maintain a regular work schedule.
Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work.
General knowledge of commonly used practices and procedures for handling unique collection materials.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others in the workplace.
Ability to perform a high volume of work with accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to plan and organize workload effectively.
Ability to work independently, set priorities, and follow general protocols and procedures.
Ability to accept supervision and correction.
Ability to exercise care in handling unique collection materials.
Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, such as standing, stooping, bending, or walking for extended periods, climbing ladders, or pushing carts laden with supplies or library materials.
Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Requirements
:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Minimum 1-year experience handling library materials or equivalent experience in a library support position.
Experience with a library classification system, Library of Congress preferred.
Ability to lift and carry library materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
