Position DescriptionPrimary Purpose and Essential FunctionsResponsible for providing didactic, pre-clinical periodontal content and will supervise pre-clinical student learning experiences in the discipline. Pacific faculty engage in teaching, scholarship and service.Responsibilities include any of the following:Teaching CurriculumDidactic instruction involving periodontal pre-clinical content.Provide simulation exercises to support the pre-clinical courses.Participate in outcomes assessment, including student and peer evaluation, to improve curricular content and presentation.Collaboration and ServiceEngage broadly in other school, university, professional, and community service opportunities.In addition to the traditional expectations for faculty members, the culture of humanism and collaboration is especially important.Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of:Requirements for a comprehensive periodontal examination.Universal and area-specific instrumentation of teeth.Pre-clinical teaching methodology.Education:Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program.Licenses/Certifications:Active RDH licenseValid CPR certificationPreferred QualificationsAbility to:Communicate effectively with a diverse population of patients, students, staff, faculty and administration.Work independently with minimal supervision.Work effectively in a group setting.Reflect, self-assess, and think critically.Maintain confidentiality of information.Demonstrate professional judgment in all situations.Experience:Previous teaching or practice experience is preferred.Minimum of one year practice experience preferred.Other:Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Faculty should have sufficient motor function to execute movements essential to teaching and demonstration.Must be able to operate controls, use high-speed or low-speed dental handpieces for tooth preparation procedures, and use hand instrumentation including scalpels for surgical procedures.Hiring Range$30 per hour.
