The opportunity

Develops, manages, and leads Gildan Distribution organizational processes to ensure optimal effectiveness of environmental, health, and safety programs. Implements and directs safety programs to protect employees against harm, ensure work is performed safely, and eliminate risks to the organization.

The role

Performs job site analysis and identifies, evaluates, and presents recommendations to control hazardous conditions and practices. Formulates and suggests work safety standards and enforces policies/procedures. Responsible for risk prevention in the areas of hazardous material exposure, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions. Monitors prevention processes for compliance and advises management on problem areas.

Establishes and implements safety training initiatives and programs to meet state and federal compliance requirements. Develops annual training calendar and budget. Develops training materials as needed and conducts training audits on a routine basis.

Manages compliance audits, random inspections, safety and health walk-throughs, injury and lost-time analysis, and third-party safety processes to ensure compliance with established programs.

Manages the investigation process regarding near misses, accidents, incidents, and compliance delinquencies. Reviews investigation information to ensure it is timely, complete, detailed, and used for implementing safety improvements.

Prepares safety documentation for reporting to state and federal agencies in collaboration with Corporate Safety & Compliance management.

Manages activities of the Safety Committee and First Responders. Ensures required training is completed.

Conducts root-cause analysis for injuries and lost-time accidents and implements safety improvements focused on injury and accident reduction.

Reviews safety policies and procedures regularly and makes recommendations for improvements as needed.

Serves as the company touch-point for regulatory agency compliance issues, third-party safety consultants, and subcontractor representatives.

Maintains EHS systems as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Education

University Degree

Experience

3-5 Years Related Experience

Knowledge & Skills

Detailed knowledge of operations and procedures to resolve straightforward issues

Good understanding of how other sectors of business interplay and affect the department

Additional Skills

Degree in business-related field preferred

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Prior experience in Safety required (safety needs analysis, program development and implementation, OSHA requirements and guidelines, WC management, etc.)

Knowledge or training in safety, environmental compliance with applicable federal and state regulations/standards, and occupational health

Demonstrated knowledge of delivering hands-on health, safety, and environmental training

Able to develop, implement, and coordinate comprehensive health and safety accident prevention programs

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Ability to lead/direct teams and/or committees

Able to work at all levels within the organization

Ability to work in a team-based environment

Experience within a manufacturing company supplying product to Retail Customers preferred

Ability to travel domestically on a regular and routine basis

Hearing required to hear instructions and safety warnings

Vision required to operate a keyboard and analyze complex materials

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
