The University of Southern Maine’s New England Environmental Finance Center (NEEFC) seeks a Climate Funding Manager to join their team.

The Climate Funding Manager will build community capacity to navigate funding opportunities (i.e., grants, loans, and other financing mechanisms), develop strong proposals, and effectively manage funding for climate action. They will work directly with New England municipalities, Tribes, community-based organizations, and utilities, with an emphasis on removing barriers and improving accessibility to funding for communities with environmental justice concerns. This position will work closely with the NEEFC Director and Deputy Director, as well as external partners, and will require periodic travel, largely within New England.

This is a full-time, soft-money (grant) funded position with a starting annual salary up to $75,000, commensurate with experience. This position will be based primarily on our Portland Campus.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., economics/finance, climate/environmental policy, business administration, public administration, nonprofit management, urban planning) with 5 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.

Experience securing competitively awarded external funding.

Experience/training in environmental and/or municipal finance.

Proficiency in additional language(s) beyond English.

License/Certifications:

Ability to provide own transportation (fully insured vehicle), provide proof of a valid driver’s license, and compliance with Maine law regarding vehicle insurance.
