The University of Southern Maine’s New England Environmental Finance Center (NEEFC) seeks a Climate Funding Manager to join their team.
The
New England Environmental Finance Center
(NEEFC) has been building community capacity as a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Regional Environmental Finance Center
since 2001, helping states, tribes, local governments, utilities, nonprofits, community-based organizations, and the private sector identify, fund, and finance critical environmental and infrastructure needs.
Many of New England’s small, rural, underserved, and environmental justice communities struggle to plan for and access funding, which is more important than ever as we encounter warmer temperatures, heavier rains, and more extreme flooding. With historic levels of federal funding available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act and a growing climate finance ecosystem, the NEEFC is working to ensure communities lacking the capacity or technical know-how to navigate these opportunities don’t miss out.
The
Climate Funding Manager
will build community capacity to navigate funding opportunities (i.e., grants, loans, and other financing mechanisms), develop strong proposals, and effectively manage funding for climate action. They will work directly with New England municipalities, Tribes, community-based organizations, and utilities, with an emphasis on removing barriers and improving accessibility to funding for communities with environmental justice concerns. This position will work closely with the NEEFC Director and Deputy Director, as well as external partners, and will require periodic travel, largely within New England.
This is a full-time, soft-money (grant) funded position with a starting annual salary up to $75,000, commensurate with experience. This position will be based primarily on our Portland Campus.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., economics/finance, climate/environmental policy, business administration, public administration, nonprofit management, urban planning) with 5 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Experience securing competitively awarded external funding.
Experience/training in environmental and/or municipal finance.
Proficiency in additional language(s) beyond English.
License/Certifications:
Ability to provide own transportation (fully insured vehicle), provide proof of a valid driver’s license, and compliance with Maine law regarding vehicle insurance.
