JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join our translational molecular biology group focused on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to advance our understanding of ALS molecular etiology and develop potential new disease biomarker assays. The responsibilities will encompass leading or contributing to various ALS experiments, including biophysical protein assays, cell assays, and assays using human samples. Additionally, the successful candidate oversees the organization of a biobank housing human samples, ensuring meticulous documentation and adherence to ethical and regulatory standards.The successful candidate will assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes and collaborate with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance. As a valued team member, the successful candidate contributes to data analysis, manuscript preparation, and collaborative discussions, fostering a dynamic research environment.The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or related fields, possesses strong molecular biology expertise, and ideally has experience in protein misfolding and/or amyloid research. Strong knowledge of protein biochemistry with extensive hands-on experience in protein expression and purification in yeast, bacterial, and mammalian cell lines. Experience in tissue culture and cell line maintenance, transfection optimization, plasmid transfection, cell viability assays of neuron-like cells, and working experience with molecular biology techniques including transformation, plasmid extraction, cloning techniques, site-directed mutagenesis, primer design, PCR, DNA sequence analysis.The successful candidate will interact with other scientists in the lab and participate in lab life by offering training and mentoring other members. Effective communication, organizational skills, and a commitment to advancing ALS knowledge are essential.
