The ideal candidate is an accomplished leader with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will be someone who can work effectively with diverse communities and someone who has a demonstrated ability to reduce crime, build community trust, and implement innovative policing strategies.The Lafayette Police Department employs nearly 300 sworn officers with a budget of over $53.6 million. The police department emphasizes transparency and accountability, maintaining open communication channels with the public via online and social media platforms.Candidates must have exceptional management skills and the ability to effectively administer all operations of the police department. The successful candidate will have a history of cultivating excellence within a police department and a demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality policing services with a focus on continually improving police-community relationships.This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or in lieu of a bachelor's degree, must have been employed as a commissioned officer prior to October 18, 1979 and still employed as such, with no discontinuation of employment. A successful candidate must have 10 years of law enforcement experience with a law enforcement agency or police department that is similar or larger in size to the Lafayette Police Department.The salary range is $150,000 to $170,000, commensurate with the selected candidate’s experience.
