The City of Indianola invites applicants for the position of

Fire Chief . The City welcomes professionals who will lead and manage all activities of the Fire Department, including fire suppression, hazardous materials management, emergency medical services, and administrative support. This role requires coordinating with other departments and agencies, as well as providing complex administrative support to the City Manager. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in fire suppression and prevention, coupled with strong leadership, training, and budget management skills.

This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including:

Organizes, assigns, supervises, and inspects the work of departmental employees. Trains, motivates, disciplines, and evaluates staff.

Oversees departmental operations and budget with respect to equipment, apparatus, and personnel.

Ensures proper operation and maintenance of fire apparatus, tools, equipment, and other property belonging to the department.

Assures that all work performed in the department meets the City's standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, and efficiency.

The successful candidate will have:

Bachelor's degree in business administration or fire science, or related field from an accredited college or university.

At least seven or more years of demonstrated leadership within the fire protection industry with career development as a chief officer.

Extensive experience in firefighting including inspections and supervisory firefighting experience, which affords familiarity with all phases of departmental operation, is required.

Certified Iowa EMT, ICS 300 & 400, Certified Firefighter II, Certified Fire Instructor I.

Valid Iowa driver's license and good driving record will hold a Class B, CDL.

The salary range for the position is $125,197.14 to $169,152.83; anticipated starting salary $125,197.44 to midpoint $143,112.17 depending on qualifications. The position also comes with a comprehensive benefits package that includes vacation, sick leave, personal leave, life insurance and AD&D, short and long-term disability, health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening and background check, physical capacity profile, treadmill test, physical. Position open until November 1, 2024.
