JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF EQUITY AND FAMILY/COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Equity and Family/Community Engagement serves as a leader informing and influencing systemic change to develop, implement, and sustain culturally responsive systems through teaching, leading, organizational policies and practices, and community engagement. This role is key to fulfilling the District’s vision regarding engagement with families, student academic outcomes, and building community trust. The Director will be responsible for defining, evaluating, and analyzing the effectiveness of family engagement initiatives on student learning, academic success, attendance, and family participation. Collaborates with parents/guardians to develop meaningful engagement in each component of administration, education, social services, health, disabilities, and volunteer activities.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Kansas Licensure in Building Leadership or relevant leadership experience

Experience bridging the gap between families and school community

Experience working with diverse populations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative

Participate in meetings, workshops, and professional development training to develop and expand the district’s equity and family/community engagement initiatives.

Provides quarterly updates to the board regarding equity and engagement policy and procedures.

Supervises and evaluates related staff.

Leadership

Provides an equity lens to the district’s Comprehensive Integrated three-tiered model of support (Ci3T) in academics, behavior, and social-emotional support.

Researches effective equity and engagement approaches and programs aligned with the district’s strategic plan.

Clear understanding of policies that impact our diverse population of students.

Collaborates with the Teaching and Learning Department to provide cohesive equity and engagement alignment in programs, resources, and staffing.

Empathy for the perspectives of students, staff, and stakeholders.

Evaluate systemic processes and lead necessary change associated with that evaluation.

Facilitates positive and communicative relationships and reliable communication through regular, prompt attendance.

Leadership style that encourages teamwork and collaboration to support excellent instruction.

Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

Persistence in the face of obstacles, productive problem-solving to counter setbacks, initiative to seize opportunities to make change.

Promotes data-driven decision-making to provide appropriate support for all students and families.

Commitment to culturally responsive teaching, including culturally relevant instructional materials and support.

Commitment to leading systemic equity work.

Convenes and provides direction to the Equity Advisory Committee, Parents of Color, and other district committees as needed.

Demonstrated leadership skills in the area of equity.

Leads and coordinates the district’s equity focus on removing barriers to improving student outcomes for marginalized populations in attendance, behavior, and family/caregiver engagement.

Strong knowledge of current professional research regarding educational equity.

Family/Community Engagement

Assist school administrators in channeling engagement in ways that support and add value to student achievement.

Belief in family engagement and the importance of family/community involvement in supporting student’s educational goals.

Build a relationship and establish ongoing communication with principals to help increase their school’s parent engagement efforts and student achievement.

Build the capacity of district and school-based leaders and staff to foster effective parent and family engagement.

Collaborates with various parent organizations, non-profits, and parent advocacy groups to strengthen family engagement and ensure the district leverages the strengths of those organizations that seek to support the district’s engagement efforts.

Commitment to the service of students and families.

Define, evaluate, and analyze the effectiveness of family engagement initiatives.

Design and facilitate a district-wide family engagement program tailored to each school community's needs.

Identify community resources to support school campus family engagement initiatives.

Plans, attends, and supports additional family engagement functions to provide additional outreach, engagement, and community connections.

Serves as the district liaison to the community regarding inclusion initiatives and creates and implements a feedback loop with community partners to solicit input and assess progress with the district’s engagement strategy.

Twelve-month administrative contract
