As a Sr. Big Data Engineer , you will design robust, secure, and maintainable data solutions that enable our advanced Analytics, Reporting, and Machine Learning capabilities across our organization. Join us in our mission This role is based out of our Eden Prairie, MN head office within our hybrid environment that has team members come into the office 3 days a week. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the health of the Big Data Platform and user community. Responsible for the full development life cycle of initiatives that cross various IT and business domains. Details include detailed design, code development, code reviews, unit testing, build/test support, data quality monitors, deployment activities, and post-deployment support. Provide technical direction to other data engineers across all aspects of the development lifecycle. Responsible for project management of team timelines and estimated development duration. Responsible for maturing data engineering principles, patterns, and practices, and ensuring team member accountability. Team technical leader for Agile processes and principles. Influence the team to improve operational processes for efficiency gains. Proactively engage in both internal and external learning opportunities across data engineering, machine learning, and AI. Use those learnings to influence infrastructure/cloud, data engineering, and data science practices across the organization. Communicate openly, candidly, and effectively with your leadership and peers, both verbally and in your writing. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in computer science, software engineering, a related field, or equivalent combination of educational and work experience. 5 years delivering production applications on Big Data technologies (Map/Reduce, Hive, Spark, etc.) by leveraging at least 1 of the following programming languages: Python, Java, Scala. 5 years of experience with BI disciplines, with mastery of 2 of the following: Cloud, Object-Orientated Programing, Data Integration, Modeling, or Analytics 5 years of SQL experience with the ability to write complex SQL statements while leveraging optimal code hygiene practices Advanced knowledge of, and extensive experience with, the Apache Spark framework in a production application setting. Proven track record of designing, building, deploying, and evolving ETL solutions to meet business requirements. Understanding of Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI techniques, and how to optimize processes supporting them in a Big Data ecosystem. Databricks, EMR, and Redshift experience are highly desired. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowing when, and how, to leverage NoSQL data stores, messaging systems, or pub-sub queuing systems within the overall data strategy. Understanding of ingesting data from APIs along with the optimization of the processes leveraging them. Experience using source code version control systems (git) and authoring CI/CD pipelines. Demonstrated experience creating and rolling out programming best practices in an organization. Proven analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical personnel. Experience with any of DMS, FiveTran HVR, SageMaker, Dataiku, SAS, Looker, MicroStrategy, Power BI, Databricks platform administration, or BI-focused AWS Cloud Architecture is a bonus. Physical Requirements This position requires prolonged periods of sitting, working with a computer and other work-related equipment up to 9 hours per day. Additionally, tasks may include occasional lifting of documents up to 10 pounds.
