Veterinary Assistant - Surgery
Ocean State Veterinary Specialists is looking to add experienced veterinary technician assistants to our surgery department. Surgical Technician Assistants must have excellent restraint capabilities and must have good interpersonal skills to communicate with doctors, technicians, and clients. All positions require some evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. Full time positions carry a generous benefits package.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Restraining patients for physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and proceduresAbility to properly restrain patient for general anesthesia induction and intubationProper positioning for surgical preparation and radiographyAbility to follow Standard Operating Procedures for aseptic technique and sterilityPreparation and breakdown of the ORRegular use and maintenance of autoclave and gas sterilizerCleaning and stocking of the surgical prep area and ORsCleaning/wrapping/packing, and sterilizing surgical instruments/equipmentQualifications:
Previous veterinary experience is required (minimum 1 year)High school diploma or GEDAnimal science degree or Animal Care certification preferred but not requiredAbility to lift/drag/pull up to 35 lbs, and work on feet majority of shiftProfessional, pleasant, engaged, clear communicator who is attentive and respectful to referring veterinarians, clients, and co-workers.Must be able to follow direction, balance multiple tasks, be confident, and prioritize tasks appropriately.Benefits and Perks (Full time):

OSVS
is located in East Greenwich, RI with a satellite facility in Swansea, MA. OSVS is a 35,000 sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally-respected internship and residency program, and specialists in Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Avian/Exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, and MRI.
