FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Systems Administrator.
Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this position is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, documentation, and provision of technical support for university wide systems software, as well as modifying existing and creating new systems software for specific needs. Assists with software product planning, evaluation, and testing. Assists in planning hardware changes and provides technical assistance to a variety of users across campus as well as Server and System administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the team's ticket queue and escalating issues as necessary.Build electronic forms to advance university efficiency.Monitors FVSU's website daily to ensure availability, patching, performance, and security.Maintain continuous system availability, system security procedures and access to user accounts.Configure SAML and other SSO platforms.Manage university-wide systems such as DHCP, DNS, file, mail, and print servers as well as their associated operating systems and software.Assists in the planning and installation of new hardware and software systems.Assists in the coordination and implementation of software system changes and upgrades.Performs software product evaluation, including installation, testing, reporting, and technical support to the campus community.Installs, configures, tests, maintains, and documents systems software including operating systems, compilers, utility programs, email systems, web-based systems, database management systems, etc.Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systemsDevelops and maintains appropriate systems data backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure integrity of computer system data. Maintains file system integrity using system management software tools.Provides technical support to peers on the use of systems and application software.Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Minimum
:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or closely related field; equivalent training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems.Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.Extensive knowledge of Windows and Mac OS X Operating Systems.One (1) years' experience in a multi-vendor, multi-platform environment.Knowledge of PC/Mac hardware and software applications.Email systems, Listserv, Oracle, Web servers, Active Directory, TCP/IP networking.Understanding of common network protocols and operating systems along with their relevant security issuesPossess real-world operational and implementation expertise to deliver integrated security solutionsAbility to effectively adopt and integrate new networking and security technologiesAbility to maintain a positive and professional relationship with faculty, staff and students, and provide exceptional customer service.Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.Ability to think logically, resolve problems, identify tasks, and develop project plans.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and requests based on the organizational goals and objectives of the university.Interpersonal skills, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to provide input in a team environment.Self-StartedWindows Server experience.VMware ExperiencePreferred
