Job Description: Nautilus Homes is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of our construction projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role is critical to our operations, providing financial insights and support to project managers and senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities:Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.Monitor and control project costs, identifying and addressing variances.Prepare and review project billing, ensuring accuracy and timely invoicing.Reconcile project accounts and resolve discrepancies.Create project accounts in the accounting system.Maintain project-related records, including contracts and change orders.Authorize access to project accounts and the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts.Review and approve supplier invoices, time sheets, and overhead charges related to projects.Review account totals related to project assets and expenses.Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.Confer with receivables staff regarding unpaid contract billings.Report on project profitability and any opportunities for additional billings to management.Report to management regarding the remaining funding available for projects.Create all project-related billings to customers.Investigate all project expenses not billed to customers and respond to customer requests for more detail.Approve the write-off of any project-related billings that cannot be billed to or collected from customers.Close out project accounts upon project completion.Create and submit government reports and tax returns related to projects.Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required.Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain project schedules and budgets.Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.Provide financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making.Assist in the preparation of financial statements and audits.Maintain accurate and organized project documentation and records.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.Proficiency in Sage 100 Contractor accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.In depth experience and proficiency in Procore Financials.CPA or CMA certification preferred.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction accounting or project accounting.Strong understanding of construction project accounting principles.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.High attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.What We Offer:
