Responsible for developing and providing direct services to participants to facilitate academic achievement, persistence, graduation, and transfer. The Educational Advisor provides case management services and instruction to participants in Student Support Services who are low income, first generation, and/or disabled. The Educational Advisor reports to the Director of Student Support Services.

Job Duties:

Assist in participant recruitment, selection, and intake.Develop and monitor individualized Success Plans with students.Provide career, personal/social and academic advising and instruction to all program participants.Organize and conduct workshops, field trips, study groups and other activities.Work cooperatively with college faculty, advisors, financial aid office, career counseling, transfer center, and other departments to coordinate services to SSS participants.Keep accurate records relating to services provided to participants.Assist in the development and implementation of program evaluation activities.Conduct Summer Bridge program orientation and recognition events.Coordinate peer mentor activities.Participate in Student Development and Enrollment Management Division programs and services.Attend professional meetings and training sessions.

Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related field and four (4) years related experience, or equivalent;At least two years' experience in high school or college setting with focus on student success and retentionExperience/training in providing individualized counseling and/or coaching.Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's and 6 years experience or equivalentMaster's degree strongly preferred.Preference given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's participants.

Additional Skills Requested:

Familiarity with academic assessment, advising and support and familiarity with career guidance and resources.

Understanding of financial aid procedures.

Knowledge and understanding of special needs of disadvantaged students.

Ability to relate well to youth and/or economically disadvantaged individuals.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Attention to detail.
