NATURE OF WORK
Assist Information Technology team with increasing the city's overall level of customer service by enabling all departments and all employees to use information technology in an efficient manner by providing comprehensive computer hardware, software, programming, network, telephone, land mobile radio and electronics technical support to all employees of the City of Prineville.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/REVIEW OF WORK:
Works under the general supervision of the IT Operations Lead.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed are intended only as Illustrative examples of the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. Any of the following duties may be performed. These examples are not necessarily performed by all incumbents and do not include all specific essential functions and responsibilities the incumbent may be expected to perform.Provide technical guidance and other support to end users.Effectively communicate with users to assess their needs and determine if they would be best met through technical guidance or training using existing hardware and software; through other commercial available hardware and software; or through custom - developed software.Review and evaluate new technology to determine its usefulness to the City.Pro-actively examine City business practices to determine where better use of the existing technology and/or implementation of new technology will provide increased productivity.Protect city data through appropriate backup and virus protection strategies.Under direction of IT Manager and/or IT Operations Lead, purchase, setup, maintain, upgrade, diagnose, repair, and replace PC and LAN hardware.Under direction of IT Manager and/or IT Operations Lead design, develop, debug, document, and maintain software.Backup IT Manager and/or IT Operations Lead regarding maintenance of inventory of all computer hardware and of all software licenses.Assist with development and implementation of policies and procedures, as necessary, to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.Perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.Maintain and increase proficiency in field of Information Technology by reading appropriate periodicals and professional journals, and by attending conferences, training sessions, and educational courses as necessary.Assist with purchase, setup, maintenance, upgrades, diagnostics, repair and replacement of voice telephony systems.Assist with the purchase, setup and maintenance of public safety land mobile radio systems, including fixed system infrastructure, portable and mobile radio installations.Diagnose and repair emergency vehicle equipment, mobile data, video systems and other public safety technology systems.Subject to occasional call-out for emergency system failure or other system problems 24-hours a day. Must remain within 2-hour response time to the City, or notify IT Operations Lead when out of the area and unavailable for call out in advance of departure.QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or GED recipient. Two years college degree or course work in Information Technology, or related field. Minimum of two years' experience working with the Microsoft Windows Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server and other electronic systems; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above described duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to diagnose, maintain, and troubleshoot PC hardware; significant ability to install, troubleshoot, maintain, and administer the City's LAN System.Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees;Proven ability in working effectively in a team oriented environmentStrong written communication, verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skillsStrong problem solving skills, including field troubleshooting of various electronic systems.Efficiently prioritize assignments and allocation time; ability to work and thrive under limited supervision.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Must be able to pass a criminal record and background investigation.Must be able to obtain necessary CJIS and other clearance and certifications in order to work with classified, sensitive, and confidential information.
Must be proficient in such software applications as, Microsoft and/or other office suites, database management, website design and maintenance, PHP, HTML, SQL, and/or other general purpose programming language.
Current Oregon Driver's license with good driving record
Proficient in telephone wiring, repair and line diagnostics.
Familiarity with land mobile radio infrastructure, including mobile, fixed base, remote base and repeater systems including Motorola, Icom and Kenwood radio systems.
The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.
SUPERVISION/LEAD WORK EXERCISED
This is a non-supervisory position. Lead work/coordination of the work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Incumbents in this position may provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel.
