Senior Desktop Engineer Recruiting Location US-IL-Chicago Department Information Technology Summary The Senior Desktop Engineer position within the Information Technology Department is responsible for all components of the desktop. This includes, but is not limited to, provisioning, configuration, management, and support of the workstation operating system, design, implementation, and maintenance of automated software distribution and system management technologies, and packaging and distribution of applications and updates. Duties and Responsibilities Act as technical subject matter expert for all Sidley workstation technologies and issues, including Windows 10/11, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge. Act as technical subject matter expert for desktop management related technologies including Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, PowerShell, Patch My PC, Aternity, PSAppDeploy Toolkit, Group Policy, BeyondTrust Endpoint Privilege Manager, and Flexera Admin Studio and AppPortal. Use workstation monitoring tools, develop queries and reports, create custom inventory and events, and provide data-driven analysis of the workstation environment. Design, document, support, and troubleshoot the workstation patching process. Troubleshoot difficult problems encountered with the PC environment and work with the internal application support teams to provide comprehensive solutions to these complex problems. Work with the Desktop & Remote Access Manager to recommend, architect and implement any new software distribution initiatives. Work with members of the Quality Assurance team to test automated software deployments prior to them being delivered to the end user. Design, document, support, and maintain the PC environment for all Firm-standard PC models, including, but not limited to, the following: BIOS, boot process, drivers, services, scheduled tasks, and computer policies. Develop, document, implement, and maintain processes and procedures for workstation configuration and support. Develop, document, implement, and maintain automated scripts and tools for PC configuration and management. Coordinate selection and configuration of standard and non-standard personal computer hardware. Participate in professional organizations and attend conferences and/or seminars to keep abreast of technologies and trends. Provide 24x7 On-Call support on a rotating basis Other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience: Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Minimum of seven years of experience in Desktop technology across an enterprise Minimum of seven years of experience with personal computer operating systems including Windows 10 or 11 Experience managing Windows endpoints with Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager Minimum of five years of experience with packaging, software distribution, and troubleshooting software installation errors Experience creating and applying Group Policies to manage desktops A thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, and IPv4 The ability to develop technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audience Preferred: Experience writing and troubleshooting system automation scripts using PowerShell Experience developing SQL queries and creating interactive reports Experience with using WMI, registry, log files, events, and in-place upgrades Experience with Flexera AdminStudio, App Portal, Patch My PC, and PSAppDeploy toolkit Experience with User Experience Monitoring tools such as Aternity Experience with Endpoint Privilege Management tools, such as BeyondTrust EPM Experience with managing web browsers in an enterprise, including Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Experience with Mac OS and/or Jamf Experience with workstation security vulnerability remediation Formal training and/or certification on applicable technologies and products Demonstrated ability to work independently, coordinate work with manager and other Information Technology staff Other Skills and Abilities: The following will also be required of the successful candidate: Strong organizational skills Strong attention to detail Good judgment Strong interpersonal communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Able to work harmoniously and effectively with others Able to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretion Able to work under pressure Able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities Sidley Austin LLP is an Equal Opportunity Employer
