PURPOSE OF JOB

Under the direction of the Vice President of Innovation and Information Technology, the Operations Technology Support Technician at DCTA will play a critical role in managing and maintaining the technology associated with transit operations. Systems such as onboard vehicle technology, security systems, mobile communications devices issued to personnel, two-way communication radios, passenger information signage across transit facilities, and electronic fare payment systems all play a critical role in delivering services to our passengers. This comprehensive role ensures the efficient operation of our transit technology infrastructure, enhancing the safety, reliability, and quality of service we provide across DCTA's service area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Onboard Vehicle Technology and Facility Signage Management:Install, configure, and maintain tablets used as mobile device terminals in transit vehicles, manage passenger information signage systems, and oversee electronic fare payment systems, including ticket vending machines at transit facilities and rail platforms, as well as onboard payment technology.Ensure the accurate, up-to-date, and fully operational status of automatic passenger counters, vehicle display signage, passenger information signage, and fare payment systems.

Security and Surveillance Systems:Coordinate the installation and maintenance of camera systems across the fleet and facilities.Implement and oversee access control systems, maintaining secure and efficient operations.

Mobile Device and Communication Equipment Management:Manage the procurement, configuration, and distribution of mobile devices (phones and tablets) and two-way communication radios issued to DCTA personnel.Serve as the primary liaison between DCTA and service providers for mobile devices, two-way communication radios, and electronic fare systems, managing accounts and contracts to ensure optimal service levels.

System Integration and Support:Ensure seamless integration of onboard, mobile technology, communication equipment, passenger information signage systems, and electronic fare payment systems with existing IT infrastructure.Provide comprehensive technical support for all managed systems, resolving issues to minimize downtime.Work closely with the DCTA Operations team to support issues that affect service delivery as related to operations technology. Coordinate resolution of reported issues to both technology and operations staff.

Project Management:Support projects related to the deployment of new technology onboard vehicle systems, within agency facilities, for communication systems, passenger information signage, and electronic fare payment systems.Coordinate with vendors and contractors, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Documentation and Compliance:Maintain detailed records of system configurations, updates, maintenance activities, and contract agreements.Ensure technology, communication equipment, passenger information signage, and electronic fare payment systems deployments comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.

Training and Development:Develop and conduct training sessions for staff on the effective use of technology systems, including onboard equipment, issued mobile devices, two-way communication radios, passenger information signage, and electronic fare payment systems.Stay abreast of technological advancements in the transit industry, recommending improvements to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.

(Any equivalent combination of education and experience)

Associate degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.Minimum of 2 years of experience in supporting operations technology, with a preference for experience in a transportation or public transit environment.Demonstrated experience managing mobile devices, two-way communication radios, digital signage systems, electronic fare payment systems, and working with related service providers.Strong understanding of network infrastructure, including routers and wireless communication systems.Proven ability to manage projects, from inception through completion.Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage vendor relationships effectively.Ability to work flexible hours, as needed, to support system deployments, maintenance, and emergency response.Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with public transit technology systems, especially digital signage and electronic fare collection systems.Certifications in network management, cybersecurity, or related fields.Special Requirements:

Hold a current valid Texas Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one upon entry into the position. CDL preferred. Ability to work variable work hours. Available in the event of required emergency response.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

:

Physical activity includes, but is not limited to: on a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time; intermittently twist and reach office equipment; write or use keyboard to communicate through written means; lift moderate weight; reaching above the waist, reaching below the waist, and reaching waist to shoulder to reach inventory on shelves; repetitive motion and fingering when using a computer keyboard; talking and hearing when dealing with customers; and observation of transit projects and operations during field work along the right-of-way.

This role requires a combination of office work and fieldwork in various transit environments.Must be able to work in outdoor conditions and navigate transit vehicles and facilities for system installations and troubleshooting.This position will work varied hours to support the needs of DCTA operations as they arise.
