Desktop Support Technician - School of Computer Science - S3D

This position is responsible for providing advanced user consulting, technical support and help desk services within the S3D heterogeneous research computing environment which includes Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. Duties of this position include diagnosing, troubleshooting and providing solutions for difficult, technical end-user problems. Must be able to install, configure and troubleshoot operating systems and application software in addition to being able to perform system repair. This position will assist in maintaining, upgrading and tracking S3D computer equipment including loaner machines, and will share responsibility for procurement of technical equipment and computing supplies. This position will collaborate with other members of the IT Services Team and S3D Videography Team to resolve user problems and provide consistent and reliable user support. In this position you will also be responsible for front line support of users of desktops, networks and IT resources. Works under general supervision. Resolves user issues and determines when additional support is needed. Provides assistance to less experienced team members. This category can include senior level help desk and computer lab staff; and experienced desktop support staff. This position also requires a regular presence on campus to assist with frequent physical and logistical support in an office environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Your core responsibilities will include:

Requires wide range of mobility, i.e., ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach, bend at waist, grasp and pick up objects, maneuver in cramped areas, perform minor repairs to equipment, stand for long periods of time, lift and carry equipment and other heavy materials up to 50 lbs. upstairs and pull and push carts up to 150 lbs. University offices, auditoriums and classrooms. Routine exposure to computer and audio-visual equipment.Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Computing Services.
