Position Summary:

The Lead Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides direct, team-based clinical care to patients, meeting clinical standards, within the appropriate scope of practice. The Lead CNM reports to the Associate Director of Midwifery and supervises a team of Nurse Midwives. This is a full-time position.

The salary for this position ranges between $110,000 - $115,000 annually and the offer amount is determined by the candidate's education, qualifications, and experience. Indeed provides their own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COH's range.

Highlighted Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages the care of women and their newborns and gives direct client services including: antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn, family planning, and gynecological care, according to the standards of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the American Association of Birth Centers, and the policies, procedures and clinical guidelines of Community of Hope at Family Health and Birth Center and Washington Hospital Center.Consults with the physician, according to the established risk criteria, regarding any client who develops symptoms of medical or obstetric complications.Co-manages with the physician the care of women who develop complications.Refers to medical management any woman who develops complications which, in the judgment of either or both the physician and CNM, are best managed by a physician.Plans and provides continuing health supervision and education to all clients under her/his care.Consults with and refers to other members of the health care team and community resources as indicated.Cooperates with clinical and office policies and protocols.Participates in quality management activities, including peer review which occurs every other month.Maintains the required productivity numbers expected by Community of Hope, as set by the board.Precepts midwifery students and nurse practitioner students during their community medicine rotations as agreed upon with supervisor.Is current with ongoing training and CMEs as required for licensing.Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential.Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal guidelines.Documents all patient encounters, including face to face, telephone, and electronic communications, in the medical record in a timely fashion.Uses the patient alert system to prevent 'missed opportunities' for care.Signs off on all laboratory results, diagnostic imaging results, and referral reports in a timely fashion; sharing this information with patients as appropriate.Maintains effective and efficient working relations with the birth center staff, consulting staff, other health disciplines, families and public.Attends required hospital and birth center meetings.Participates in public relations programs that publicize midwifery, advanced nursing practice and/or birth center care.Assists with fundraising, reporting, and program development as requested.Meets with supervisees regularly and provides real-time feedback, training, support, and coaching as needed. Creates meeting agendas, sends meeting agendas in advance when possible, and documents concerns promptly as needed.Applies principles learned through diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) trainings and/or trauma informed care trainings (TIC) and leads with a DEI and TIC lens when appropriate.Reviews the performance of team members in a timely manner, including completing 90 day and annual performance evaluations per their due dates, documenting any issues or changes, providing recommendations for professional development and/or training opportunities, and recognizing staff when appropriate.Partners with the Talent Management team regarding personnel matters including but not limited to, terminations, leaves of absence, training, onboarding, and other COH handbook policies.If applicable, actively recruits for vacancies with a sense of urgency. This includes reviewing resumes, phone screening, interviewing, and completing references. This also includes partnering with Talent Management for assistance in an effort to fill vacancies promptly.Takes initiative and makes decisions within the scope of work. Assesses situations independently, thinks critically, and takes action to address issues or make useful recommendations while maintaining a solution-oriented lens.Delegates tasks appropriately to team members to ensure that team goals and responsibilities are achieved. Prioritizes tasks and directs work to ensure deadlines are met.Establishes common goals with their team through communication, inspiring and leading team members, and holding team members accountable. Links team goals and metrics to the overall strategic plan.Attends Leadership Institute trainings as needed or as required.Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Current license as a Nurse-Midwife in in the District of Columbia required. Any providers who are licensed in Maryland who provide a copy of their license and MD CDS to Talent Management are also eligible for MD licensure reimbursement.National Certification as Certified Nurse Midwife required.Supervisory experience preferred.Experience with both hospital and out-of-hospital births; experience with 40 or more births preferred;

No new grads at this time.Current BLS certification (ACLS or BLS for the Healthcare Provider or equivalent) required.Current neonatal resuscitation certification (NALS or NRP or equivalent) required.Participation in appropriate continuous medical education;Bilingual in Spanish and/or Amharic preferred.Participation in appropriate continuous medical education is required.Commitment to working with the underserved.Ability to work in a non-profit environment.Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is required.
