High Liner Foods is seeking a Packaging Innovation Specialist to join our Research & Development team. The Packaging Innovation Specialist explores the future of packaging and works with various stakeholders to commercialize innovative and sustainable packaging solutions to bring unique products to market and help drive the company's breakthrough innovation strategies to deliver growth, innovation, effectiveness, and sustainability.

Accountabilities and responsibilities

Collaborate with Marketing and Innovation teams to develop a packaging innovation pipeline to align with new food product development innovation.Influence 2-5 year R&D pipeline and beyond through technical knowledge and consumer insight to ensure our products continue to engage and excite consumers.Develop approaches for technology scouting, material advancements, and novel concepts and translate into opportunities for product pipelines using open innovation approaches and internal capability development.Lead discovery phase projects and/or implementation projects where requiredAct as packaging innovation lead within R&D and wider business while providing a point of contact for external partners.Identify product and packaging opportunities that will deliver profitable growth in new categories with new consumers.Develop network of Institutes and Researchers who have worked on unique materials & technologies that can be applied in Packaging.Work with Operations to conduct feasibility assessments of new packaging as they relate to functionality, quality, cost, timing, manufacturability, productivity, and sustainability.Create and follow test methods and SOPs related to new packaging development and provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders.Create and verify detailed packaging specifications, material compatibility and dispensing characteristics.Collaborate with cross-functional teams and various stakeholders on new and innovative, cost-effective packaging solutions and materials that meet commercial and production requirements.Demonstrate technical expertise on packaging, materials, and processes along with the ability to communicate that knowledge to internal and external partners.Support Engineering & Production teams to execute new product launches and provide on-site support during new product launches to floor personnel.Support management of specifications and other required documentation for new and existing products. Identify and lead the application of continuous improvement in specification management and documentation processes.Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, or related field.5+ years consumer packaged goods experience with a proven history of taking new products to market.Understanding of paper/paperboard, converting, package printing, corrugate, adhesives, pallets and films, equipment/materials interaction, and packaging laboratory test methods.Experience in consumer driven innovation process, interpreting consumer pain points and translating it to new packaging options.Computer knowledge and skills - MS project, MS OfficeExcellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.Experience with regulations and GMP requirements.High level of organizational skills, including attention to details, ability to multi-task and capable of managing projects simultaneously

Working conditions

This position is located at High Liner Headquarters. The position involves daily or frequent contact with satellite R&D groups, operations, business channel managers, sales, procurement, purchasing, regulatory, and quality assurance managers. It also involves external contact with suppliers. The position requires travel domestically and internationally.
