Summary

As a member of the properties Management Team, the Director of Banquets is a highly visible role with exposure to Senior and Corporate leadership. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

The Director of Banquets is responsible for planning and executing all banquet events at the hotel. These events will vary from size to event type with extensive detail and high standards.

Duties include:

Responsible for short and long term planning and the management of the Banquet operations in the front and back of the house

Develop and recommend the budget, marketing plans and objectives for the department

Implement and maintain serving and presentation standards

Direct and oversee development of employees

Hire, train, empower, coach and counsel, performance

Direct the implementation of payroll, forecasts, inventory and budget for Banquet operations

Coordinate banquet operations with culinary and stewarding departments to ensure efficient guest service

Resolve customer complaints as appropriate to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and quality

Implement procedures to increase guest and associate satisfaction

Exercise quality control for both food and beverage

Order alcoholic beverages as well as other beverages for events. Maintain budget and inventory for all beverage purchases per event. Complete monthly inventory.

Maintaining Hyatt standards of service and ensure their implementation

Performing daily walk-through to ensure full compliance with Department of Health regulations and Hyatt Corporate standards

Discussing sales contract details with the Banquet Sales and Events Director and Executive Chef.

Leading daily EO reading meetings

Planning the event space layout according to the number of guests and the type of event.

Directing the placement of tables, chairs, cutlery, plates, glasses, table linens, centerpieces, heating lamps, serving utensils, and carving stations for each event

Overseeing the seating of guests, the serving of meals and beverages, and the clearing of tables.

Preparing work schedules and completing payroll weekly

Readily available to clients at all times prior to, during or after an event, out on the floor and easily visible able to alleviate questions/concerns and provide excellent client service

Ensuring group charges are settled at the conclusion of their event

Ability to effectively read reports and plan for upcoming events

Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures

Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds

Service oriented style with professional presentations skills

Proven leadership skills

Hotel/Hospitality degree an asset

Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, proven track record in high volume concept, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and ability to improve the bottom line

Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills

Experience implementing new F&B concepts

Qualifications

Full Time Management Position that requires full flexibility, including the ability to work weekends and holidays and a varied schedule

A true desire to understand and anticipate the needs of others in a fast-paced environment

Refined verbal and written communication skills

Must be proficient in general computer knowledge

Candidates should be extremely creative, innovative, detail oriented and organized

Hotel experience and a thorough understanding of all levels of banquet service

Previous experience as a Event Services Manager/Assistant, Event Services Captain or Event Services Supervisor preferred

Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, strong developer and trainer and effective in providing exceptional customer service
