We are working closely with a sustainable fashion brand seeking an experienced Manager of Technical Accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with US GAAP. This role will address complex accounting issues, provide technical guidance, and support our accounting operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of public and industry experience, with exceptional communication skills to explain technical concepts to stakeholders. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Accounting and Reporting and is based in Los Angeles, CA.

Job Details

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Accounting: Research and implement new accounting standards; provide guidance on complex transactions.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure compliance and accuracy in financial statements and disclosures.
  • Policy Development: Create and maintain accounting policies to align with regulatory standards.
  • Advisory Role: Advise finance teams and departments on technical matters, providing training as needed.
  • Internal Controls: Strengthen internal controls and collaborate with auditors to maintain compliance.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Prepare technical memos and explain accounting matters to management and auditors.
  • Process Improvement: Stay current with accounting trends and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required (advanced degree preferred).
  • Experience: 7-10 years in technical accounting, ideally with Big 4 and industry experience.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong grasp of US GAAP, SEC regulations, and complex issues (e.g., revenue recognition, leases, stock-based compensation).
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret standards and solve complex accounting problems.
  • Communication Skills: Proven ability to translate technical information for non-experts.
  • Software Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office, ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite), and financial reporting tools.
