Job Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee the day-to-day operational functions of Ethos Classical, ensuring that the school operates efficiently, complies with all regulations, and provides a safe, supportive environment for both scholars and staff. The COO will collaborate closely with the Chief Executive Officer, leadership team, and staff to develop strategic operational plans that align with the school’s mission and growth. This leader will be responsible for managing a variety of departments, including facilities, finance, technology, food services, and human resources.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
Develop and oversee all operational systems and processes, including school safety protocols, facilities maintenance, and technology infrastructure.
Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of school-wide projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Manage vendor relationships and oversee service contracts for food service, security, and other operational needs.
Ensure all compliance requirements with local, state, and federal regulations are met, including health and safety standards, building codes, and other operational based services.
Financial Oversight
Collaborate with the Director of Operations and Chief Financial Officer to manage school budgets, financial planning, and resource allocation, ensuring the school maintains financial health and sustainability.
Provide oversight for the school’s financial operations, including payroll, purchasing, accounts payable/receivable, and audits.
Regularly report financial health and key operational metrics to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors.
Strategic Planning and Execution
Assist the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Academic Officer in long-term strategic planning and implementation to support the school’s expansion efforts, including any facility acquisitions, renovations, or construction projects.
Lead operational planning for school growth, including facility space requirements, technology upgrades, and staff expansion.
Ensure the seamless opening and closing of school days, events, and any special initiatives.
Leadership and Team Management
Lead, mentor, and manage the operations team, including the facilities, food services, technology, and HR departments.
Foster a collaborative, solution-oriented culture across operational departments, ensuring all staff are working in alignment with Ethos Classical’s mission and goals.
Lead and support staff professional development in operational areas and drive team accountability to meet performance metrics.
Risk Management and School Safety
Lead the development and implementation of crisis management plans, school emergency protocols, and overall risk management strategies to ensure the safety and security of the school community.
Maintain ongoing risk assessments to prevent operational, safety, and financial risks.
Human Resources Management
Oversee HR functions, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and employee relations, in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer.
Ensure compliance with employment laws, benefits administration, and performance evaluations.
Support school leadership in maintaining a positive organizational culture.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required; MBA or Master’s in Education Leadership preferred.
Experience : 3+ years of senior-level operational leadership experience, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
Proven experience managing school operations, facility management, and financial oversight.
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, execute strategic plans, and lead cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing school operations, including safety protocols, building codes, and special education services.
Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including school leadership, staff, families, and external partners.
Proficient in technology systems and data management, with experience overseeing IT infrastructure preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a charter school or similar educational setting.
Knowledge of school finance, human resources, and project management software.
