Requisition Summary
PACCAR’s Zero Emissions department is focused on new technologies such as battery electric, hydrogen fuel cell electric, and advanced vehicle concepts that eliminate harmful emissions in the heavy and medium duty transportation industries. The PACCAR Zero Emissions Powertrain department is developing new electrified components to support applications in the global product offerings under the Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF, and Leyland brands. This Principal Engineering role will direct and maintain ownership of the high-voltage battery thermal development and packaging for current and future battery systems. The successful candidate will have experience in thermal systems for zero-emissions vehicles and be able to work in a collaborative environment across multiple business units.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
Collaborate with engineers and supplier partners to develop industry leading technologies for battery thermal management.
Define and evaluate various thermal management technologies to guide and enhance system designs.
Direct thermal engineering analysis and designs to support the expansion of EV applications into new market segments as customers adopt the technologies.
Foster innovation through effective collaboration, personal initiative, and motivating team members.
Communicate results and recommendations to key stakeholders on a regular basis and facilitate technical meetings.
Oversee and support rapid troubleshooting and problem resolution related to battery system scope of responsibility.
Work closely with PACCAR’s purchasing and quality teams to identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers.
Utilize a standardized phase/gate product creation process to deliver high quality engineering designs.
Other duties as assigned.
Up to 20% travel (domestic and international).
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Physics required. Masters or Ph.D. preferred.
10 years industry experience including 5 years in electrical powertrain systems.
Demonstrated technical knowledge and working experience in battery development for automotive applications, actively leading projects in this field.
In-depth experience in actively supporting the design of high voltage battery thermal systems and supplier management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, actively engaging with stakeholders.
Willingness to grow personally and professionally, ready to learn and make use of new processes and techniques. Be resourceful with problem solving approach.
Willingness to be outgoing, engaging, and demonstrate passion to deliver top quality results by defining direction of the thermal systems in Global Powertrain.
