matters.King County Metro Transit's Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transit's Link light rail service and City of Seattle’s streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 33-mile route from SeaTac to Lynnwood and a 6.6-mile route from Redmond to South Bellevue. By the end of 2026, light rail is projected to expand to nearly 60 route miles, adding seven new stations. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come.
Seattle Streetcar includes the 1.3-mile South Lake Union line and the 2.5-mile First Hill line, proudly serving the diverse and vibrant communities around Seattle’s downtown core. These rail services complement Metro's extensive fixed-route bus system and mobility services. Puget Sound transit agencies are collaborating to create an integrated transit network that enables people to travel farther, faster, and more easily.
This recruitment will be used to fill
two
(2) career service
Occupational Education and Training Coordinator
positions for Link Light Rail. The responsibilities of this classification include creating, designing, implementing, and continually improving training programs. Responsibilities also include developing processes and programs to support training and education.
One position will focus on
Instructional Design
and
Learning Plan Coordination , and one position will focus on
Instructional Design
and
Assessment Evaluation Coordination .
Pay Information:
The pay range for this position is $39.9935 - $48.3492 per hour. This non-exempt position is eligible for overtime pay.

Occupational Education and Training Coordinator , you will also:Collaborate with Rail leadership, technical training leadership, other instructional designers, and others to create high-quality, relevant learning materials, including:
Lead the design and development of new and revised technical trainings at the request of sections/craftsConduct needs analysis to gather information and create learning experiences that meet section/craft needsProvide expert advice and counsel to internal customers regarding education and trainingConsult and collaborate on the design of leadership learning opportunities
Support in the development and maintenance of consistent standards and practices for materials, delivery, and assessment, including:
Collaborate with technical trainers and craft leads/chiefs to review and update existing training materialsDevelop and maintain quality standards for online, hybrid, and in-person trainings and training materialsEnsure incorporation of equity-based practices into learning experiences and training materialsDevelop and support the implementation of assessment and evaluation practices for training sessions, training programs, and learning plans
Support the mindful adoption of technology into learning and trainingServe as a thought partner for the Training Strategy Manager, Technical Training Leadership Team, Senior Leadership Team, and others to ensure high quality and continuous improvement of learning and training at RailParticipate in the hiring and training of personnelCreate and maintain a variety of documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and reports to support training and onboarding activitiesCoordinate the development and maintenance of training plans for job classifications in the divisionServe as a backup for the Rail Onboarding Coordinator as needed, including:
Transport new employees to King County offices for onboarding documentation appointments as requiredFacilitate components of employee orientation, including (but not limited to) welcome presentations, building tour, organization overview, introduction to employee accounts/logins/learning systemsTroubleshoot issues that arise during new employee orientation
Perform other duties as assignedRequired QualificationsWe are looking for candidates who have:
Bachelor’s degree + minimum 1 year experience creating learning materials for diverse audiencesOR
Any equivalent combination of education, course work and experience that results in the ability to perform the duties of the positionAND
Knowledge of adult learning theory, practice, and methodology, including demonstrable experience with curriculum development and assessment principles and practicesAdditional Qualifications
Degree or certificate in Education, Instructional Design, or closely related fieldExceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including:
Ability to listen carefully to others and meet diverse needs related to learning and training developmentSkill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Demonstrated experience collaborating with stakeholders to create training materials that meet specialized needsExperience facilitating learning or training for adultsExperience assessing and evaluating training and training programsExperience designing curriculum in multiple modalities (in-person, hybrid, online)Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of equity, inclusion, and accessibility to curriculum development and designExperience using instructional design software and learning management systemsKnowledge/Skills

Work ScheduleThis position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.
Work schedule is normally a 40-hour week Monday through Friday. Negotiable start and end times. Alternate work schedules may be considered. Work outside of the normal workday will be required for meetings, events, and outreach events.
Work Location(s) The primary location of this position is 3407 Airport Way S. Seattle, WA 98134.
This position will be expected to travel occasionally to the Operations and Maintenance Facility – East, located in Bellevue (1925 120th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98005).
Teleworking RequirementThe work associated with this position will be performed predominantly in a hybrid work environment working in the office and at home. The expectation is to be in the office up to 2 days a week depending on business needs (with flexibility in which days and location). Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements and travel to different bases to meet with others.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
