Our commitment to fostering strong relationships with clients and contractors ensures that we approach every project—regardless of size—with the utmost care and dedication.Job DetailsGeneral Overview The Controller is responsible for analyzing and implementing accounting policies, practices, and processes to ensure efficient and compliant accounting practices for the company. This position oversees two direct reports (with potential for more as the business grows) and will report directly to the CEO.Responsibilities Design, evaluate, and modify accounting policies to ensure “best practice” is in place for the accounting department. Implement improvements in current practices. Manage the monthly close process, including preparation of financial statements, GL reconciliations, and journal entries. Maintain monthly Work in Process (WIP) Schedules in Spectrum software and Excel. Participate in monthly WIP reviews with Operations Team members. Assist or perform payroll duties as needed, including building and completing W2s, 1099s, ACA reporting, etc. Support Human Resources with benefits administration as needed. Control and manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Review and sign monthly job billings and associated lien waivers. Make recommendations regarding asset purchases, sales, and expenditures. Participate in cash and financial forecasting with the executive team. Collaborate with third-party CPA firms as needed to complete tax returns and annual financial reviews. Ensure federal, state, and local tax compliance, including payroll, sales, use, business personal property, and federal/state tax return information. Support Job Cost Accountant and AP/Payroll Specialist to ensure efficiency in their roles. Perform other assignments as needed to meet company objectives. Serve as the subject matter expert in Spectrum software, assisting departments with troubleshooting and software configuration.Qualifications 8+ years of previous experience in construction accounting or a similar role required. Strong ethical standards and willingness to hold others to those standards required. Experience managing and leading a team required. Knowledge of industry-specific practices such as sales and use taxes, certified payroll, lien waivers, etc. required. Bachelor's degree required, preferably in accounting. CPA license is a plus; CCIFP certification preferred. Knowledge of Viewpoint Spectrum accounting software is a plus. Knowledge of Colorado sales and use tax rules and regulations required. Familiarity with the latest GAAP changes required. High-level proficiency in computers, including MS Office Suite required. Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise initiative required. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, required. Ability to solve problems and generate effective solutions required.
