Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist to provide technical expertise in interpreting and implementing a high-quality, scalable, and efficient databases for the DoD. This position is responsible for overseeing server configurations, manage network systems, and resolve technical issues and ensure the reliability, security, and performance of the IT environment. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Java programming language, have solid experience in web application development and front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. ResponsibilitiesConducts thorough testing, including unit testing and alpha testing to ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and robust software solutions.Ensures the stability, security, and availability of the database to support critical business operations and perform regular backups, monitor performance, and optimize database configurations to ensure seamless functionality.Reviews and tests large-scale web applications, ensuring adherence to coding standards, security best practices, and performance requirements.Prepares and/or develops detailed specifications for new applications, ensuring clear and comprehensive documentation of requirements, design, and functionality.Evaluates existing applications to refactor, update and add new features to an existing web application; enhance user experience and performance of existing web applications through continuous improvement and modernization.Monitors and maintains network infrastructure, ensuring optimal system performance and reliability, identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance network stability and efficiency.Provides technical support to end-users, addressing hardware, software, and connectivity issues.Maintains comprehensive and detailed documentation of system configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.Collaborates with IT team to plan and implement infrastructure upgrades, install, configure, and maintain server hardware and operating systems.Implements and enforces security measures to safeguard sensitive data, manage users access privileges, and monitor for potential security breaches.Identifies opportunities for automation and implement scripts or tools to streamline database administration task.Qualifications

Secret Clearance.Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.Minimum of 7 years' experience working in Java development or Systems Administration.Proficient in Windows, Linus, or Unix operating systems.Strong knowledge of networking concepts and protocols.Proven experience as a database administrator, managing and maintaining database in a production environment.Experience with relational databases such as Oracle and Postgres using SQL/HQL.Excellent problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills.Familiarity with the "Wild Fly" application server.Experience using tools supporting Java Enterprise Edition such as Hibernate, Java Servlet Specification, and Java EE Context Dependency Injection.Experience diagnosing and resolving database-related issues, including performance problems, data corruption and connectivity errors.Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Clearance.Desired Qualifications:

Master's degree or equivalent work experience.TS Clearance with SCI EligibilityExtensive proficiency in SQL and experience with Oracle or Postgres.Military experience/familiarity.Ability to 'own' and proactively drive work.Strong time management and organization skills.Company Description
