Primary Purpose:
Administer and maintain the district's Skyward Student Information System (SIS) by defining processes, fulfilling data requests for student information required by various departments, and assisting with PEIMS tasks. Support departments and campuses in their use of the SIS, ensuring efficient and effective access to reliable data. Develop, maintain, and monitor all Skyward data systems, flows and scripts as required. Duties will include, but not be limited to, installation, testing and oversight of all district Skyward data systems, software and related functions.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in technology or information systems preferred, or equivalent technology experience with a focus on systems administration and support
Evidence of completion of Skyward Setup and/or Specialty courses (SMS 2.0) or Skyward General and/or Mastery Courses (Qmlativ) relevant to Enrollment, Scheduling, Attendance and Gradebook; or completion of such courses within the first two years of employment.
Experience:
Three years K-12 experience with Student Information Systems (Skyward preferred) or similar data-related systems requiring management, setup, maintenance and interfacing functions
Required Knowledge and Skills: Experience with Student Information System functions including, but not limited to Enrollment, Registration, Attendance, Scheduling, Grade Reporting and Discipline Working knowledge of Public Education Information Management Systems (PEIMS) as it pertains to student information Working knowledge of Texas Data Systems (TSDS) processes Strong attention to detail with analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills Understanding of workflows and processes with the ability to implement forms, workflows, and reports across multiple system modules Knowledge of standard reporting tools such as SQL Reporting Services and Crystal Reports plus strong proficiency in Excel Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and produce technical documentation Ability to effectively train non-technical users Understanding of data privacy laws and related cyber security best practices Understanding of cloud computing as it relates to scalability, flexibility, and best practices
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Experience maintaining complex, enterprise-scale client/server systems
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Administer the district's Skyward Student Information System and provide technical support to departments and end users
2. Support the accurate collection and successful submission of PEIMS data.
3. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with departments and district stakeholders in order to understand requirements for student data and develop appropriate processes to provide information as needed.
4. Manage critical processes required for effective district operations to include, but not limited to, enrollment, registration, scheduling, grade reporting, attendance, and discipline.
5. Engage with all end users of Skyward to promote and maintain data integrity.
6. Compile, analyze and interpret data to ensure accuracy and support critical decision making.
7. Perform data imports/exports and data mining within the Skyward system to facilitate PEIMS processes, interface between Skyward and other critical district systems, and provide vital information access to end users.
8. Act as a consultant and point of contact between the district and Skyward to diagnose and resolve complex data management problems and data integrity issues.
9. Maintain the Skyward Family Access portal to facilitate family engagement and provide second-level support to departments and campuses as required for successful use by the community.
10. Implement and maintain role-based security to protect the privacy of educational records and perform periodic audits.
11. Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in areas of data privacy and information management and technology.
12. Monitor performance and ensure adequate backups are performed regularly Recommend upgrades, enhancements and additional tools as needed to optimize system performance.
13. Act as a liaison between developers, vendors and end users to ensure technical compatibility between systems that interface with the SIS and sustain satisfaction for district stakeholders.
14. Produce technical documentation and implement effective training focused on successful use of Skyward.
15. Work in partnership with department administrators, campus administrators, counselors and data entry clerks to design training plans for various levels of users.
16. Respond to emergencies and after hour calls as required
