Primary PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Superintendent, to oversee and administer the functions and operations of the school district's Information Technology Systems and technology activities, integrating technology into District functions and education, assessing the effectiveness of school district's technology infrastructure and security, providing recommendations regarding potential hardware and software upgrades, and maintaining the proper functioning of all computer systems.
Essential Responsibilities
Technology Planning and Strategy :
Develop and implement a long-term technology plan for the district that aligns with instructional goals.Evaluate and recommend technology investments, hardware, and software to support educational programs and administrative operations.Stay current with emerging technology trends in education and integrate best practices.
Technology Infrastructure Management :
Oversee the district's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, telecommunications, and internet services.Ensure reliable access to technology resources, including wired and wireless networks, student devices, and classroom technology tools.Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and upgrade of all district technology systems.
Student Information System (SIS) Management :
Oversee the implementation, operation, and maintenance of the district's Student Information System (SIS).Ensure the SIS is fully functional, integrated with other district systems, and supports district reporting, attendance, grading, and student data needs.Train and support staff on the effective use of the SIS, providing guidance and troubleshooting assistance as needed.Ensure compliance with data reporting requirements for local, state, and federal agencies, including timely and accurate submission of student data.
Cybersecurity and Data Protection :
Implement and manage cybersecurity policies to protect student and staff data from unauthorized access or breaches.Ensure compliance with relevant data protection laws, including FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).Conduct regular security audits, risk assessments, and disaster recovery planning.
Instructional Technology Integration :
Collaborate with curriculum leaders and educators to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.Provide guidance on using digital tools, learning management systems (LMS), and other educational technologies to enhance student outcomes.Lead professional development initiatives to train staff on new technologies.
Budgeting and Procurement :
Prepare and manage the technology department budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement of hardware, software, and services.Oversee vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and manage technology-related purchasing decisions.Seek grant funding opportunities for technology improvements and initiatives.
Technology Support and Operations :
Supervise the IT support team, including help desk staff, network administrators, and other technology specialists.Ensure prompt and efficient technical support for students, teachers, and staff.Manage the implementation of new systems, including hardware installation, software deployment, and technical troubleshooting.
Leadership and Collaboration :
Serve as a member of the district leadership team, advising on the role of technology in achieving district goals.Foster a collaborative environment with school leaders, teachers, and other stakeholders to identify technology needs and develop solutions.Participate in strategic planning committees and district-wide initiatives focused on student achievement and operational efficiency.
Compliance and Reporting :
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to technology, cybersecurity, and data privacy.Maintain accurate records of technology assets, user accounts, and system access.Prepare and submit reports on the status of technology initiatives, budgeting, and compliance to the school board and district leadership.
