JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

Opportunity for a 3D Studio Engineer to join Adient. The 3D Studio Engineer is a hands-on modelmaker and 3D printing expert, for developing and fabricating new automotive seating concepts /products for Engineering and Industrial Design at Adient, LLC, in Plymouth, MI. The position is 40 hours a week. Ability to work additional hours and occasional Saturdays as projects demand.

You will be working in a modeling studio and will interact with Industrial Designers and Engineers from our business units. Attributes that are helpful in this position are the drive and initiative to develop creative solutions for customer needs, problem solving and a desire and aggressiveness to learn and participate in a team environment. This is a fast-paced environment and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is advantageous to your success. The solutions you propose may be 2D on paper or physically modeled in a variety of mediums. Digital skills with Catia, NX, Rhino or other CAD systems are necessary for this position. The ability to read, plot or design in CAD will be useful to design concepts or make changes to physical and digital parts. Some welding and metal fabrication skills are necessary or the desire to learn these skills. A desire to run and maintain 3D printers is required. A strong knowledge and use of 3D slicing software such as Simplify3D, IdeaMaker and or Cura is required. A knowledge of all modes of 3D printing such as SLS, SLA, MJF, Binder jet, FDM, DMLS, LFAM and EBM. Previous experience maintaining a variety of 3D printer technologies is required.

Qualifications/Experience

Either:

Minimum 2-5 years of commensurate experience in designing and fabricating your ideas or others in a team or individual basis. Ability to convert 2D ideas into 3D objects. Personal outside interests in woodworking, sculpture, modelmaking repairing bikes, motorcycles or other hands-on activities are of benefit to this position.

OR

4-year or 2-year undergraduate program in either; Engineering, Product Development, Industrial Design, the Sciences, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Studio Arts or Liberal Arts. A portfolio of current or past work is of interest. This portfolio should show examples of products you have designed, fabricated or 3d printed alone or as part of a larger group.

REQUIREMENTSThis is a hands-on fabrication and 3D printing position working with Industrial Designers and Engineers.Strong knowledge and use of 3D slicing software such as Simplify3D, IdeaMaker and or Cura.Knowledge about 3D printing and the maintenance of printers.A knowledge of all modes of 3d printing such as SLS, SLA, MJF, Binder jet, FDM, DMLS, LFAM and EBM.Previous experience maintaining a variety of 3D printer technologies is required.Knowledge of Catia, NX, Rhino, Fusion 360, Solidworks or other CAD systems is required.Willingness to learn Catia or NX if CAD knowledge is currently in another system.Engineers should have a positive attitude and teachable spirit.Engineers should be outgoing and receptive to greeting customers who enter the studio.Professional attitude and appearance.Engineers should have a design sensibility and ability to work from sketches as well as engineering drawings and CAD.Commitment to own project from conception to finish product.Understanding of how engineering, design, tooling, and manufacturing impact 3D builds.Interest in learning how to use mediums such as skived foam, foam core, plastics, steel, aluminum, or metal fabrication.Engineers should be interested in learning or have prior experience in the safe usage of power equipment (table saws, bandsaw, mill, lathe, disc sander, drill press).Mig/Tig welding experience or desire to learn at Adient.Ability to lift 50lb seat structures and fixtures.
