GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Provide complex administrative support to the Dean of Students and the areas within Student Engagement. Duties range from clerical support; answering and directing phone calls; providing information to faculty, staff, students and the public; scheduling appointments and managing departmental calendars. Receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. Remain fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the institution, Student Engagement Department and select institutional committees. This position reports to the Dean of Students and exercises no supervision.

NOTE:

This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:

Knowledge of:

1. English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; 2. Office methods, practices which include electronic filing systems, record maintenance and letter writing; 3. Demonstrate understanding of budget and accounting records; 4. Advanced understanding of computers, software and educational software in higher educational setting; 5. How to deal with difficult people in variety situations.

Skills in:

6. Navigating computers and related technologies, various educational and management software, and internet utilizations; Ability to:

7. Communicate successfully in oral and written format. 8. Perform responsible and often difficult administrative work involving the use of independent judgement and personal initiative; 9. Prioritize and multi-task as needed in order to meet deadlines; 10. Provide a variety of complex clerical work in a college setting; 11. De-escalate upset constituents in person or on the phone; 12. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with key internal and external partners; 13. Type at a reasonable speed for successful job performance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Associate Degree from an accredited college or university (a minimum of 12 college credits plus relevant work experience may be substituted for required degree)

Experience:

At least two years of work experience in a clerical environment
