Description
GENERAL PURPOSE:Performs entry-level technical work in the Transportation Division of the Public Works department. Drives, maintains, and fuels buses to provide service to the patrons of the City transportation program. Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
HOURS OF WORK :Will be required to work varying schedules, holidays, and during special events which City services are operational. Hours are subject to change at any time upon management discretion.
Minimum of twenty (20) hours per week with the possibility of additional hours depending on departmental needs .Essential Duties and Responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year experience in bus transportation. The City reserves the right to consider alternate combinations of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Must have been a licensed operator for at least three (3) years (time spent driving on a learner's permit does not count towards this requirement).
Must have a state of Florida Class B or higher commercial driver license with passenger endorsement. Driving history must reflect no traffic citations for three (3) years prior to the date of application.
A biennial physical examination is required. DOT drug and alcohol testing history with previous employers must reflect no violations or testing refusals within two (2) years of date of application.
Must abide by the Florida Department of Transportation Rule Chapter 14-90 (Florida Administrative Code).
Must be able to read and abide by the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) and Security Program Plan (SPP) established for the City's bus program.
Previous community bus program or county bus driving experience preferred.
Previous driving experience on a fixed route with time points is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks involve extended periods of time sitting in and operating a vehicle. Tasks may involve occasional walking and some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors.

PENSION/RETIREMENT PLAN
The City participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS), which offers a choice of either a Pension Plan (defined benefit) or an Investment Plan (defined contribution). The City contributes an amount to the selected plan that is determined by the State Legislature. In addition, employees make a bi-weekly mandatory 3% contribution through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis. The Pension Plan benefit is determined by multiplying 1.6 times the years of FRS service times the average of the employee's highest eight (8) years of salary. The Investment Plan benefit is based on the performance of selected funds over time. Employees in the Pension Plan are vested after eight (8) years of service; vesting is after one (1) year of service for the Investment Plan. Normal Retirement for the Pension Plan is age 65 with 8 years of service or 33 years of service at any age, whichever occurs first. Early Retirement is any age after eight (8) years, but less than 33 years of service (There is a penalty of 5% per year under age 65.) There is no age or service requirement that must be met to receive a benefit under the Investment Plan.
The City also offers a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan with ICMA, which allows voluntary employee contributions up to the maximum amount defined by federal legislation. Employees 50 years of age and over may contribute an additional $5,500 per year. Traditional and Roth IRA Plans are also available for employees to make contributions through payroll deduction.
HOLIDAYS
Ten paid full-day holidays and two paid half-day holidays (Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve) per year. Regular part-time employees shall be granted holiday pay on a pro-rated basis. If a holiday falls on a regular day off, the employee shall be scheduled for a shift off during the same pay period.
PERSONAL LEAVE
New full-time employees are credited with personal leave their first year based upon date of hire as follows:
January 1 through March 30th - 16 hours
April 1st through June 30th - 12 hours
July 1st through September 30th - 8 hours
October 1st through December 31st - 4 hours
Part-time employees are credited with personal leave on a pro-rated basis. Each year after the first year, all part-time employees are credited with the maximum amount of the individual's pro-rated hours of personal leave on January 1st, for that calendar year. Personal Leave must be used during the year it is credited, and cannot be carried over from year to year.
VACATION LEAVE
Employees earn .0385 hours of vacation leave for each hour of regular paid service.
SICK LEAVE
Employees earn 0.0462 hours of sick leave for each hour of regular paid service.
LONGEVITY
Employees are eligible for longevity pay as follows:
