This position is skilled work in the operation of a passenger bus, trolley, tram, or passenger van.Responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle on an assigned or deviated route and schedule at various locations within the county.Loading and unloading passengers, who may include elderly and/or disabled, and transporting them to various locations.Collecting fares.Performing basic vehicle maintenance. Completing necessary reports and paperwork.Work is performed independently under the general supervision of the Transit Supervisors and the Operations Manager.Education, Experience, Licensing
Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED.Possession of a valid Class A or B CDL with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement
OR
a valid Class A or B CDL Permit with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement prior to offer.Must obtain a Florida CDL Class B License with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction within 30 days of hire date. (Training and testing provided by LeeTran staff.)Transit Bus Drivers must be able to pass a Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination and maintain a current medical card. This is a safety-sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation CFR-Part 40, 49 CFR Part 655.Supplemental Information
Must be able to exercise independent judgment in daily activities and be able to work with, and be sensitive to, passengers with various disabilities on a daily basis.Must be able to drive in all weather conditions and in darkness.Ability to provide exceptional customer service to the public and fellow employees.Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, stoop, bend, sit for long periods of time, load and unload wheelchair passengers and secure wheelchairs inside the bus with wheelchair tie downs.Prefer one year of experience in the operation of a bus or heavy automotive equipment.LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays. Normal hours of operation are 4:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m., with extended hours during seasonal service. Day and evening shifts available. Shift schedules vary and routes are selected by seniority at least semi-annually.Employee must be able to work any job assignment scheduled.Evening shifts offer shift differential with additional compensation.Opportunities for voluntary overtime.
