Position Overview : We are assisting our client seeking a highly skilled Construction and Development Accountant with 5-10 years of experience in managing financial elements of large-scale industrial warehouse and multi-family apartment projects. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of construction accounting, project cost tracking, and financial reporting. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring financial accuracy, managing pay applications, tracking project schedules, and reporting to lenders and limited partners (LPs). Experience in Texas construction and development projects is highly preferred.Key Responsibilities:Financial Management : Oversee the financial operations for construction and development projects, specifically industrial warehouses and multi-family apartments, ensuring all financial processes align with company policies and objectives.Pay Applications : Manage and process contractor and vendor pay applications, verifying accuracy, compliance with contracts, and timely submission.Budget Tracking : Monitor and track project budgets, ensuring that actual costs align with projected budgets and that cost overruns are promptly identified and addressed.Schedule Tracking : Collaborate with project managers to track construction schedules and align financial reporting with project timelines.Reporting to Lenders & LPs : Prepare and present financial reports to lenders and limited partners, providing detailed updates on project costs, timelines, and financial performance.Draw Requests : Coordinate and prepare draw requests for lenders, ensuring that all necessary documentation is accurate and complete for timely funding.Accounts Payable/Receivable : Manage accounts payable and receivable, including timely processing of invoices, ensuring compliance with contracts, and maintaining accurate financial records.Cost Allocation & Job Costing : Ensure accurate job costing and allocation of costs across multiple projects, maintaining up-to-date financial records for each development.Variance Analysis : Perform regular financial variance analysis to identify discrepancies between budgeted and actual expenditures, and recommend corrective actions as needed.Audit Support : Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary financial documentation and reporting for construction projects.Compliance : Ensure all financial activities comply with lender requirements for builder risk and GLA insurance, loan covenants, Texas-specific tax laws, construction regulations, and lender requirements.Project Closeout : Manage financial closeout processes, ensuring all payments, reconciliations, and reporting are completed and documented upon project completion.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.5-10 years of experience in construction accounting, with a focus on industrial warehouse and multi-family apartment developments.Strong understanding of construction and development project accounting, including cost tracking, pay applications, and financial reporting.Proficiency in construction accounting software and advanced Excel skills.Experience in managing lender and LP reporting, draw requests, and project budget reconciliation.Knowledge of Texas construction regulations, tax laws, and project finance.Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with project managers, contractors, and financial stakeholders.CPA or CMA certification is a plus but not required.Familiarity with GAAP and construction-specific accounting principles.Salary : Competitive, based on experience, with benefits and performance-based bonuses.
