Senior Director, Legal Contracts

We are seeking an experienced Senior Counsel at the Senior Director level to join our legal team. This role requires a diverse skill set across contracts, legal operations, and general legal counseling. The ideal candidate will possess substantive legal knowledge in the biotech/pharmaceutical sector, legal contracting expertise, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to managing complex legal challenges and opportunities.Position Responsibilities:
Contracts and Legal Operations :
Manage the full lifecycle of contracts, including drafting, negotiating, and executing a wide range of agreements to support the organization's general commercial, business development, R&D, and medical collaborations and research initiatives (50-60% of overall job); partner with other subject matter legal & legal operational experts across the company.Lead operations related to contracts, including refining and managing the contract policy and overseeing the implementation and operation of the enterprise contract management system; partner with IT to refine and automate contracts metrics and identify innovative solutions.Manage vendors, contracts manager and work collaboratively across Legal and Compliance Team to balance business opportunities with risk mitigation efforts; support and contribute to legal projects and initiatives.
Diverse Legal Project Work (as assigned) :
Provide comprehensive legal support across Madrigal as needed to support strategic projects including general commercial and corporate legal work, employment guidance, and compliance direction as applicable and in collaboration with other legal and compliance professionals across the company.
Qualifications and Skills:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.Preferred: 8-10 years or more of legal and/or healthcare experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry or supporting clients in biotech or pharma that have handled transactional matters for R&D (e.g., IP licensing, R&D collaborations, sponsored research, material transfer agreements, etc.).An understanding of regulatory and legal frameworks governing the research, development, and approval of new medicines.Demonstrated ability to proactively identify, analyze, and manage complex legal issues and provide strategic, proactive legal advice and business-oriented solutions.Proven ability to execute on complex projects and lead them to successful completion.Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a track record of building effective relationships with both internal teams and external partners.Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.Compensation:
Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands.
