Job Summary:
The Manager of Network Infrastructure/Telecommunications Services oversees the university's cyberinfrastructure/telecommunications, including user-facing and backend services. The Manager will be responsible for network planning, architecture, and design, as well as implementation, maintenance, and operational support. As part of this role the Network Infrastructure Manager will manage a group of network 3 Network professionals including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations. The Manager is expected to have a strong hands-on background in routing, switching, wireless, network virtualization, and firewall security.
Duties/Responsibilities:A strong understanding of network protocols and concepts sufficient to monitor and manage network services in a Cisco environmentDevelop and maintain a 2 to 3 year strategic infrastructure plan including long-term vision, technology roadmaps, goals and objectives.Develop and maintain day-to-day operational plan including firmware/software version control, power cycling, configuration backup, data backup, disaster recovery testing, outage management, escalation procedures and SLA'sOversee inventory control database records for receiving, location and component tracking, asset status, reallocation, and disposing for the organizations hardware and softwareManage database records for information regarding licenses, registrations, warranties, and service agreements for the organization's hardware and software Manage procurement and acquisition including specifications and negotiation with vendors, outsources, and contractors to secure software, services, and hardware.Develop and oversee change management and quality assurance processes including review and approval of engineering design proposals, implementation plans, and acceptance plans.Oversee all projects and monitor the screening, scoping, scheduling, deliverables, communication, and documentationManage the day-to-day workload and priorities of existing and new tasks, requests, and projects against available resources and expected service level agreementsDevelop wireless performance data, metrics, algorithms, and reports to measure and track client, exhibitor, attendee, and staff wireless experiences against service standards.Continuously assess, test, improve and document 24x7 monitoring infrastructure including alarming, logs, and event management.Develop B-CU Security Policy and maintain ongoing assessment of security environment and recommend solutions for safeguarding the internal and external networksDirectly supervise the Network Infrastructure Team. Responsibilities include training staff, and planning, assigning, and directing work.
The ability to manage Cisco layer 3 switches, firewalls, IPS sensors, layer 2 edge switches, VPNs, and wireless access pointsServer InfrastructureA solid understanding of the OSI model, TCP/IP network stack, troubleshooting techniques, and the ability to capture and analyze network trafficAssist the Network Administrator to install, manage, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows 2012 to 2019 servers and server roles, administration of Active Directory & AD Group Policies, DNS & DHCP administrationThe ability to manage and administer a clustered VMWare ESXi enterprise environmentThe ability to manage and administer a clustered NetApp SANAbility to manage the Telecommunications systemAn understanding of structured low-voltage data wiring and the ability to install and modify network closetsThe ability to mitigate risk and understand the ramifications and impact that decisions have at both a campus and systems levelAbility to manage time and resources and effectively balance multiple, competing prioritiesAbility to establish cooperative working relationships with technical staff and work within a high-performing teamCommunication skills sufficient to train and mentor staff and to create written documentation of procedures24x7 on-call access. Strong knowledge of IT administration with progressive experience in information technology infrastructure services and support.Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands on experience in design, implementation and support of layered network models at the Access, Distribution/Aggregation, Core, and Datacenter locations.Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, implementation and support of BGP in an enterprise environment including turn ups, turn downs, in/out filters, prefix lists, route maps, AS prepending, and community attributes Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and support of layer 2 protocols including 802.1s MST, RSTP, MC-LAG, VLANS, BPDU Filter, Root GuardDemonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands on experience in external DNS, internal DNS, DHCP, NTP, RADIUS, and IPAM.Strong working knowledge of structured cabling systems, network facilities, UPS, and electricalUnderstanding of transport technologies including dark-fiber, DWDM, TDM, copper/fiber
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred or equivalent relevant work experience and/or hardware/software certification(s). Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a technical role with increasing responsibility.
Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:
Master's degree, prior experience supporting higher education or other post-secondary education environments.
