JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36
Work Shift: 7pm-7am

Summary of the Job:
The LPN position is responsible for the coordination of clinical activities of a group of assigned patients. Activities include, but are not limited to, use of the nursing process in the utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care as it relates to the specific needs of the patient. The LPN works within the framework of the State LPN Practice Act and complies with hospital and nursing standards in the performance of job duties and responsibilities. The LPN will support the goals and objectives of the department and of the hospital. The nursing staff within Children's Services areas are required to float among units within the hospital.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed Board Certified Nursing Program
  • Current Louisiana LPN Licensure
  • IV Therapy certification required
  • Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.
  • Current PALS certification required within 30 days of hire. Current NRP certification required within 6 months of hire. May be obtained through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.
  • CPI certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Demonstrated communication, time management and organizational skills required.
  • Must have typing and computer skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and be able to perform detail-oriented tasks.


Physical Demands:

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
Physical Effort required:

Constant (67%-100%) - seeing
Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, talking, handling/feeling, hearing
Occasionally (1%-33%) - stooping, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc), crouching
