Salary: $67,690 - $88,539

In accordance with the agreement between the Organization of School Administrators (O.S.A.S.) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, Article 6.4, Promotion Procedure, the following vacancy is announced:

Position Summary:

As a key contributor to the District's Knowledge Management division, in the Office of Strategy, Data & Accountability, the District Hub Content Manager will work with cross-functional teams and select students to meet the goals for the District's intranet (Hubiverse). This includes supporting and working directly with end users, organizational stakeholders, and school-based staff and students. The Hub Content Manager will write, review and refine content, provide feedback and technical assistance to department content managers to ensure continuity of themes, engaging layouts, streamlined navigation and accessibility across the District's intranet, and support the codification of knowledge and materials created by schools and central office departments that can be reused, repackaged, and improved upon by others to boost sustainability.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience with information architecture and user experience design methodologies including (but not limited to) contextual inquiry, heuristic analysis, open/closed card sorting, use case and process documentation, wireframes and storyboards, prototyping, design studios, and/or workshop moderation is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, such as Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills; demonstrated experience with technical writing is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of interface design and graphic design best practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of accessibility and disabilities, and the ability to design and develop against WCAG 2.1 heuristics

Essential Functions:
  • Support the development and adoption of Office 365 applications including Teams and SharePoint for District departments and schools
  • Help manage a dynamic intranet for staff, based in Office 365 and in line with the goals of the District's overall knowledge management strategy
  • Help develop and implement a technical support plan for the intranet, including resolving or escalating requests submitted by department content managers and inquiries submitted by internal users
  • Develop guidelines and provide guidance and implementation support to content managers and stakeholders regarding information architecture, content strategy, user experience design, and occasional custom page and interface component development
  • Conduct regular audits of the intranet and implement plans to rectify issues including, but not limited to:
    • Accessibility: WCAG 2.1 heuristics
    • Brand identity: Voice and tone; use of colors, typography, and logos
    • Quality: Grammar, spelling, image composition
    • Governance: Assisting with identification of non-compliant, redundant, outdated, and/or trivial content
    • Consistency with and relevance to the District's strategic plan
  • Work across teams to identify opportunities for integrating District- and school-level data, resources, and news for display on internal web pages, provide input on implementation details, and implement agreed-upon solutions
  • Regularly monitor and analyze web analytics to suggest improvements to the District's internal web presence
  • Administer content manager permissions for the internal websites and intranet tools
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director, Knowledge Management
    • Must possess and provide evidence of a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent higher education agency in Mass Communications, Journalism, User Experience Design, Computer Science, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of work experience.
    • Three (3) years of work experience designing and implementing websites or web applications
    • Experience with content management systems is preferred (SharePoint, Finalsite, Blackboard)

    Security Clearance:

    Internal Applicants

    If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
