Position Summary
The Dental Assistant is responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of procedures performed by dental staff and assists dentist(s) in all phases of dentistry, including taking diagnostic intra-oral x-rays and completing front desk/registration duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist dentist(s) chair side in all phases of dentistry and manage patient behavior during treatmentOperate dental radiographic equipment for the purpose of oral radiology; taking diagnostic quality x-rays, developing, and mounting correctly as requested by the dentist(s)Follow infection control protocols as specified by professional, state and federal standardsProvide patients with oral hygiene instructions following dental proceduresPerform tasks in adherence to all OSHA and regulatory sterilization, infection control, and protective barrier guidelinesDocument treatment and patient information in dental software program
Required Skills or Abilities
Ability to assist dentist in all phases of dentistry, and take diagnostic intra-oral x-raysStrong organizational, administrative, and problem-solving skillsAbility to effectively present information to others, including other employees, community partners, and vendorsAbility to work independently with little onsite supervision, using professional judgment and diplomacyWork in a team-oriented environmentExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills and ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds and to be culturally sensitive
Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration
Completion of certified Dental Assisting Training Program strongly encouragedCurrent provider-level BLS CPR certification required prior to hireKnowledge of proper use of all dental materials and dental equipment and ability to assist dentistProficiency in Microsoft Office strongly preferredCoronal Polishing certification and Sealants certification very strongly preferred

Salary
All wages are based on relevant years of experience and time since completing a Dental Assisting program, if relevant. The minimum rate is the wage that a newly graduated Medical Assistant will earn. The range is larger than normal, as there is variation depending on valid certifications earned.
