Your positive, professional, and consistent personal interactions make AvalonBay a great place to work.The RoleThe Director of Capital Markets will be an integral member of the Capital Markets department, supporting the origination, management, and strategic oversight of the company’s debt and treasury functions. This role is responsible for the management of secured and unsecured debt in collaboration with the Vice President of Capital Markets. Additionally, the role involves treasury management, including cash forecasting, funding coordination, and managing banking relationships. This individual will also provide expert financial analysis and recommendations to support executive financial decisions, structure new transactions, and mentor junior team members.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Evaluate, manage, and facilitate the origination and maintenance of debt (secured/unsecured), joint ventures, ground leases, and revolving credit facilities.Forecast debt metrics and covenant compliance, prepare capital markets presentations for executives and the board, and conduct ad hoc financial modeling.Oversee treasury activities including liquidity management, cash forecasting, commercial paper trading, and line of credit management in collaboration with the Capital Markets Analyst.Manage relationships with investment bankers, treasury partners, and trustees, assessing new financial products and providing internal recommendations.Facilitate annual budgeting, quarterly reforecasting, and ongoing scenario analysis of cash flow, interest expenses, and income with the Capital Markets Analyst.Represent Finance in asset acquisition and disposition transactions, including 1031 exchanges, collaborating with Investments, Tax, and Legal teams.Provide analytical support for capital markets transactions, perform risk mitigation, and contribute to documentation review and strategic decision-making.Minimum Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, or Business. A Master’s degree or CFA certification is preferred.Experience: 5-10 years in a capital markets or treasury role within a public company or an investment bank with real estate exposure.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Strong command of the English languageExcellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to create and present group presentations on relevant subjects and produce clear, concise reports.
