Position continuation dependent on additional grant funding. Overview: This is an exciting time to join Portland Adult Education, the largest school for adults in Maine. We serve approximately 2,000 adult learners annually in our Academic and Workforce programs (ESOL, High School Diploma, College Transitions, and Workforce preparation) and offer both in-person and remote classes. We serve another 1,000 adults a year in our Enrichment programs which are offered throughout the City of Portland. Position Description: Portland Adult Education seeks a Technology Specialist to work in the areas of student and staff technology and support. Reporting to the Data and IT Coordinator, the Specialist will utilize an asset management system for loaner laptops and wifi units, and will be responsible for device distribution and collection from students. Additionally, they will oversee loaner devices for a limited number of staff, and will be available to provide day to day support troubleshooting tech issues within the building. Duties and Responsibilities: Device Distribution, Retrieval and Maintenance Manage student laptop and hotspot distribution and collection efforts Distribute/collect devices based on a school calendar with a variety of distribution and return dates Coordinate device distribution and return process logistics with the Data and IT Coordinator, Digital Literacy Coordinator, Department Chairs and other teachers and staff Use PAE's asset management system to track device requests and control inventory Use PAE databases to monitor student enrollments and loaner device retrieval schedule Keep accurate inventory of loaner device status including: availability, broken/lost, replacement needs Develop and maintain a safe, secure, and organized hardware storage system Prepare returned computers for future student or staff use including: powerwashing, updating OS systems for Chromebooks and PC's, reimaging Computers (PCs and Chromebooks), sanitizing, etc. Evaluate condition of returned equipment and make recommendations for repair, if needed Consult with PPS IT Dept about laptop loaner program best practices at biweekly PPS and PAE IT meetings Make recommendations to PAE Data and IT Coordinator to replace parts/computers/charge cords etc. as needed Manage staff loaner devices and in classroom tech-related instructional equipment Resolve basic hardware issues Student Support and Communications Provide excellent customer service to students Review Device Loaner Agreement with Students Provide clear expectations for students around laptop care Use a variety of automated and manual communication tools to support device distribution and return Utilize Help Tickets/Student Support system Serve as point person and trouble shooter for students, as well as staff for emergency in building technical support Support digital literacy orientation work in collaboration with the Digital Literacy Coordinator Staff and Building Technical Support Responsible for managing teacher tech inventory and loaning to staff as needed Provide building-wide parts/equipment order recommendations to the PAE Technology Team Provide troubleshooting support for day to day building tech issues or teacher tech questions Additional Duties Include: Work collaboratively with members of the newly formed PAE Technology Team Train others on how to use the device loaner system Liaison with dept. chairs/program coordinators to assess ongoing device and digital needs Consult with PPS IT Department on a regular basis Required Skills/Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field preferred Multilingual with proficiencies in any of the following in addition to English: Portuguese, French, Arabic, Spanish and Somali Logistics and Systems Development experience required Ability to provide tech support and troubleshooting. IC3 or A Certification desirable Experience using: Excel, Google Suite, Video Conferencing Tools, Variety of devices and OS including: laptops, tablets, Chromebooks, phones and Apple/Android Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to multitask and create systems to organize work Excellent management and communication skills Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment Comfortable working with databases Self-starter with a high degree of flexibility Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan & implement projects effectively Ability to work professionally and ethically within a multicultural setting, including ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of persons, documents, data and communications Ability to work in a demanding environment; and a willingness to learn Preferred: Experience working with with multicultural communities Familiarity with PAE and its programming preferred Location and Work schedule: Work will take place at Portland Adult Education, 14 Locust St, Portland, ME Work schedule generally from 8:30-5:00 with some evening hours required The STT schedule must be set at the beginning of the year and remain consistent throughout the academic year, Sept.-June Credential Requirements: Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization.
